Surface 3 LTE has no internet on HSPA+ network

Actually the title says it all. I have a Surface 3 LTE which connects to the internet just fine! I'm using Vodafone on the Netherlands.

However, at some point I see that I have no internet. The indicator still shows I am connected. And it takes forever for the computer to come to the conclusion that there is a network to connect to (HSPA+) but there is no internet on it. After disconnecting if I want to reconnect I have to enter an APN of which I am pretty sure I have already done that!

A reboot fixes the issue. Then the tablet sees the LTE band/network again and I am happy internetting again.

Any thoughts?

Most likely we will not hear anything back now...

Yesterday again I had to restart my entire tablet to get back on the interwebz. Strange thing is though...currently I am online on HSPA+ for over half an hour. Everything is smooth as a wistle!

    Dear Arnulfo,

I fully agree with the KloppKopp and Plantje's conclusion. Please read the whole thread. That being said I would almost feel honoured by MS replying. Thank you, but give us something practical. It is most probably a matter of driver software checking and polling better, faster and more stable for a connection that supports and delivers internet. That's your department. That's where you can really help us and all who join us in grief, whilst you otherwise provided the world (IMHO) with a device that has a good future for combining so much beef in so light a structure.

"We always make sure that updates are sent out to make sure all your devices are up to date."

For which we are gratefull. Please give us one that will (seamingly easy, being only software) make our devices so much more fluent. If not, tell us in which time-frame we can expect a sollution or why not at all, so we can all stop hoping for deliverance.

@ Plantje: allthough the Dell looks good, 8" is too small for me. Like you, 12" too big (to carry with me everywhere). This size is perfect and I am bound to windows. I am testing this unit to almost full (!) satisfaction. Our normal gear is thoughbooks which feel like dinosaurs in comparison to the surface.

Thank U for reading Arnulfo, now please give us hope!

    Hi Arnulfo,

its great to see that a MS company person actually reads our posts.

However your reply shows that you are miles away from the problem. This has nothing to do with the network. Or how do you explain that I get perfect connection with the Huawai surf stick?

It must be a problem withe the S3 Network hardware and/or network driver.

    Hi,

We just want to assure everyone that we in Microsoft hears your concern and we are dedicated in resolving them.

With regards to LTE issue on your Surface devices, we just want to reiterate that LTE works on different spectrums/band type and is carrier and location-based dependent.

In as much as we want to deliver a stable 4G connection without interruption, kindly consider the facts stated above. We always make sure that updates are sent out to make sure all your devices are up to date.

Should you wish to know more about network coverage, we strongly encourage to contact your local carriers or you may provide feedback about networking to the Windows team through Feedback Hub.

    Regards.

Thank you for your response, Aart! It's good to know that I am not the only one experiencing this issue. I am positive this is an issue with the Surface 3 as I currently am on my third Surface 3 LTE (because the first two got replaced due to screen issues)

It would be nice to have the option not to use the HSPA+ band. I think now it sometimes switches to the HSPA+ band because the signal strength of LTE is not as good as the signal strength of HSPA+. Not saying there is no LTE signal at all...just less powerful. In those cases I would like my Surface 3 to hold on to LTE rather than switch to a band with better signal that provides no internet.

Still sometimes internet over HSPA+ is fine...sometimes...

I don't think there is a way to force this as it is really hardware level settings and scripting.

I wonder if the Samsung Galaxy Tab S Pro or the Dell Venue Pro (which both have LTE options as well) are any better at this. In hind sight I think the Dell would have been a better option. I notice that I use an Archos Cesium 80 (very cheap 8" Windows tablet) a lot at home while on the couch. The only huge advantage of the Surface 3 and the 10.8" screen size is that I don't need to carry a separate laptop. And I think the sizes above 10.8" are too large.

For that matter the Chines stuff that comes from Aliexpress, Gearbest etc may also be a good option. iPad sized casing, running Windows. With LTE options, keyboard docks and stylus support. But...you cannot be sure if it is really what you want.

I own an EXOPC and WeTab tablet. Both have a Huawei EMM770W card that allows 3G connection. However, with those you need to dial in every time you want to get on the internet.
