Surface Pro 3 LGC Battery Degradation

I figured that maybe it would be helpful to those few that may have my particular issue (battery charging MORE then the design maximum capacity) if i updated you.

I spoke once more with MS and emailed one of their technicians my battery report which shows that the device consistently charges the battery to around 44000 mwh, about 2000 higher than the design maximum.... The technician was very specific - he said looking at the battery report, "wow! You have a BAD battery... A really really bad battery" lol..... Considering the fact that it has only been through 120 charge cycles, i agree, it's a bad battery.... Unfortunately, it's out of warranty... At least i have the option to pay $369 plus tax CAD and have the device replaced.

For anyone with a similar problem who may think that it isn't really a problem understand that lithium ion batteries, if constantly over charged, will eventually begin to expand, and at some point the battery will vent - as it's fully encased, that means that there is a distinct likelihood that the machine will actually explode - so, no, this is not a good thing....

Personally, i think it's ridiculous that MS is making me pay for an out of warranty replacement, knowing full well that they sold a device with a faulty battery. They should take responsibility and replace it free of charge, out of warranty or not - this is something that only showed up after the warranty expired .

I've also had this issue prior to the update. I went to my closest Microsoft store and the tech was not even able to run a battery report on mine (errored out).

This issue is almost certain a software issue in an update that has reconfigured a few things that involve charging and battery configuration. I have been troubleshooting this on my surface since the day the told me I had to spend 450 bucks to get another surface because my "hardware or battery failed".  I can tell you I have found several issues with the charging system software and it has me thinking that this was done "with knowledge" as I can isolate the battery from a surface that has not had the updates or firmware changes and compare it to one that has and see the logic of why it is acting the way it does. Getting close to the answer and can not wait to expose what actually happened.

2 hr 19 mins from a full charge... and this is if the device is doing nothing.  It's RIDICULOUS!!!!

And in just producing this report (Sorry the length caused an error when clicking submit so I cheated and used an image to get around it. :D) the battery level is already down to: 87% 1 hr 31 min remaining... Not really very usable.  I normally make heavy use of Visual Studio and VMware and I absolutely MUST leave the thing plugged in.  I do consider myself luck in that it doesn't just shut off as soon as it's unplugged though.
