Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I got new unit after returning the problematic device. This time I only installed system firmware update via the following link which the tech support group directed to me:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49498

I didn't install the November Windows update 1511 to make sure this is not causing the trouble. I did get display driver crash when using Edge with the new display driver dated 27/10/2015 version 20.19.18.4308. I also noticed at times the it refused to wake up once power button is pressed. The previous display driver if you roll back 10.18.15.4293 dated 24/9/2015 did wake up consistently and don't crash howeverI noticed when you do a scroll down was some flicking at the bottom. The previous driver in my own opinion didn't crash so it is more stable.

Try to disable background apps by going to Setting>Privacy>Background apps, this may help to conserve battery power while sleep. The other way is to configure both the power button and close lid cover to hibernation. I love the SP4 but with all the unexpected bugs I'm beginning to lose faith with Microsoft quality control.

Hi, Everyone, Just wonder if anyone has already found a reliable solution or work around for this "unable to wake up from sleep mode and battery drain during sleep" problem?

I just returned my problematic device and waiting to see if I should order another one if this most serious problem can be fixed.

    Hi awesmdiver,

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    I will try them now.

When I look at my battery in the device manager I indeed see a driver from 2006 installed stock, but when I use automatic search for driver updates, windows says it has the latest.

So did you search or download the driver from somewhere else, if so ... got a link ?

I'm gonna try the close lid - hibernate thingy now since this is NOT WORKABLE for me, I have this multiple times a day :'(

    Regards

    Steve

I have EXACTLY this same problem.  All I am hearing and reading from Microsoft reports are work around on how I can "reboot" my surface.  But what about the root cause ? What about all my unsaved documents ?

This is just not right and should be addressed with the proper attention from MS.  I have NOTHING for a tech guy telling me to "have you tried turning it off and on again"

I have my surface pro 4 now for 2 weeks.  I have all the latest updates and everything and I get this issue EVERY DAY.  It's just stupid.  I cannot work like this ... refund might be a solution.

1.6K device and all I'm getting is "reboot" your surface ... I mean ... PLEASE, really ?!
