Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I too am having the same problem.  Tried the 128GB/4GB RAM i5 and the 256GB/8GB RAM i5 and both have the same problem.  This is totally unacceptable and MS should be fixing this immediately.   If MS doesn't fix it soon I will be returning the second one for good and look for other options.

I've been having the same issue with my Surface Pro 4/128/i5/4GB. when I close the type cover and open it later, the display simply won't wake up.

I saw your post and I can tell you the answer is NO!.

After holding the power button so many times, I finally got an error from Windows where the device refused to boot. It got caught in a boot loop where it would show the Surface screen then try to boot Windows and then error out and keep doing it until I force it off.

I downloaded the 4GB recovery tool for the Pro 4 and redid the system from the recovery image. I diodnt install anything else and I closed the cover and waited a few and then opened the cover and again the display refused to come on. It doesn't happen every time, but it is a pain because I leave stuff open that I want to return to by just opening the cover and I cant and I lose everything.

I was going to take it back this weekend and ask for an exchange. or they need to provide an updated GPU driver if this one isn't going to work.

Thanks, Gordon, looks like this is working for me. Do you get a pop up message at the lower right corner 'Display drive stop working but recovered'? I got mind quite frequent especially using Edge to surf the web.

Yes. Also getting edge crashes. Given  how many complaints there are and how much telemetry there is, I can only assume this is at he top of their list. If there is something higher, I am glad I don't know about it.

The nov update fixed a bug in the microcode of the CPU. The fact that they are finding bugs down there means there is a lot of work that has to go into each bug fix. I would be pleasantly surprised with a fix sooner rather than later, but I am not counting on it. 😕
