Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    I can tell the surface is still working--the windows hello camera lights on, the notification sound plays, even the backlight can be adjusted, and after I plug the cord in, the light on the charger works. however, the screen doesn't light up. I've noticed that this is a common problem among windows devices since windows 8.

    this only happens at times. and I've already reset my device twice.

    I have the same issue, I think that it is the driver also because you can actually sometimes get the touch keyboard to show up on an otherwise black screen. The display driver always crashes randomly also, so that makes sense. Does anyone have a fix other than turning off hello?

    ***WORK-AROUND***

    I had this issue with my SP4, and this is the temporary solution: Press Win+P twice to re-awaken the surface display. 

    I suspect this only works when you have another monitor attached, so it actually makes the switch. On my SP4, without an attached monitor, the display remains disabled, although the Win+P has taken effect in the background.

    As I mention elsewhere, Ctrl+Alt+Del does the job (or when the keyboard is detached, a press on the pen eraser button to bring up OneNote).

    Is it not turning on, or is the screen just black. Look at your keyboard when you wake the machine. Is the backlight on? If it is, then press Win+P, wait a second or two, then press Win+P again. This will toggle the display to look for a projector, then to look for an internal panel. That second step will force the panel to be recognized and it will come up just fine. It's a driver/sleep issue.
