Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

Power plan is balanced, set to all defaults right after the TH2 update this weekend.

I undocked my SP4 and took it to a meeting but didn't have to use it. When I got home woke it briefly (~1 minute) and then closed the keyboard to have dinner. When opened the keyboard, the lights on the kbd came on, but the screen wouldn't wake. I tried clicking the pen eraser, but the screen didn't wake. I tried a ctrl-alt-del and got a charm sound, but no screen. Clicking the power button turned the keyboard backlight on and of but the screen wouldn't revive. After 10 minutes I power-volume reset the machine and restarted after dismissing the bios screen.

When I got back to the desktop, I had 70% battery. This was (roughly) 3-3.5 hours from when I undocked it.

Sleepstudy showed 11% battery discharge per hour in the two sessions, with the first being dominated by a USB controller (~70%), with HD520, CPU/CO, and Marvell all clocking in at around 20%. The second session was dominated by the WP Sync Client (I don't have a WP phone, fwiw) at 67% with BI and HD520 each clocking in at 20%.

Note that, to my memory, my SP4 has never woken up by just opening the keyboard, I've always had to click a key or the track pad, or press the power button.

Certainly this can't be the intent of connected sleep. Any suggestion on how to mitigate this carnage?

Having the same issue, downloading the driver listed above does nothing.

I concur - downloading the drivers is a placebo. The video driver version (4308) in the download referenced above is the same as on a fully-patched SP4 from windows update.

These are the same 11/02/2015 drivers (SurfacePro4_Win10_151102_0.msi) that everyone already has and they don't fix the *VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED (117)*issue upon waking up from sleep.

Microsoft tech support is clueless and just gives out standard scripted answers. This is a driver timeout issue upon waking up from "sleep" and needs to be fixed by the Microsoft Surface Team.

In the meantime, you can go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options -> System Settings and set everything to Hibernate (or Shut down) as shown below:
