Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

I have a i7 256 and often get the display driver to stop working. Still not fixed with the latest updates

A new driver isn't a temporary hack / workaround.  It's an update from the manufacturer (Intel) to correct problems in an earlier release.  In this instance, the new driver hasn't been incorporated into updates from MS yet.  I'm sure they have their reason

It certainly used to be the case that a driver update from a component manufacture was a valid end user solution (assuming the hardware is compatible)

However my making drivers autoupdate in Windows 10 Microsoft have changed the game. A user installed driver may be overwritten at any time. Hopefully with the official approved version of the suppliers driver, but. Possibly something else.

    Hence

I say it is temporary until an official update comes from Microsoft

I don't like this as it removes user choice but I guess it simplifies support for Microsoft.

    Do not believe so.

I bought my SP4 back in November and the sleep issue has been there since day 1. Has been manageable up to about 3 days ago when 75% of all sleep wouldn't wake. Have changed to Hibernate and will wait for a fix. Love this machine so its a shame not to be able to use the sleep function. If it starts to bother me I will do the driver install as per page 41 of this forum. Bring on the FIX!!!!

For those who still complain about the problem causing lost work, use one of these current solutions mentioned on this thread:

    1. Use hibernate, not Sleep, or use sleep for less than 1 hour
    2. Get the new driver

A small 'nit' - neither are solutions - just temporary hacks / workarounds. While they appear to work for some we need Microsoft to finds a solution that works for everyone.

All together now..."Come on Microsoft, get yer finger out! and fix this one"

A new driver isn't a temporary hack / workaround.  It's an update from the manufacturer (Intel) to correct problems in an earlier release.  In this instance, the new driver hasn't been incorporated into updates from MS yet.  I'm sure they have their reasons.  Maybe they want to thoroughly test it first to ensure it doesn't create other problems.  Or maybe they don't want to release it if it only fixes the issue for 90% of the users, and they want 100%.  Or maybe they're just lazy.  ; )

I know everyone is PO'd at MS, demanding a fix, with some even resorting to using the strongest tool in our arsenal - ALL CAPS - to make their frustration known.  As someone who's worked in hardware/software dev (many years ago when things were much simpler) I know this is a complex issue to hunt down and destroy.  The SP4 packs a lot of tech into a small package, including a new OS.

I got mine on 12/26, and had a lot of wake from sleep issues and a couple freeze ups.  I installed the Intel .4352 driver on 1/1 and reset the Windows power settings back to default.  Aside from occasionally using Ctrl-Alt-Del to wake up my screen, it's been golden.  No need for hard power down anymore.  One freeze up over the last 2 weeks.  Progress.

For those that the .4352 driver hasn't helped, you have my sympathy.
