Where are you Microsoft???

I'm one of the people you refer to that paid nearly 3K for my Surface Book.  Knowing what I know right now, I'd definitely buy my Surface Book again as I really love this machine, what it does, and how it does it.  The only problem I'm seeing at this point is the video driver that halts and then immediately comes back on again with no loss of data.  It happens only occasionally and only when I'm using my Internet browser.  For me that is definitely no show stopper.  Microsoft stated in these forums that they are actively working on this one.

I've made my living trading the stock market full time for my own account for the past 15 years using Interactive Brokers Windows trading platform.  My Surface Book works flawlessly for my trading.  If any computer gave me any problems in my trading, I wouldn't be using it.

I'm an avid amateur photographer and I use Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop CC every day.  I maintain a personal web site and blog using WordPress.  I make extensive use of Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft OneDrive for data storage.  None of these applications give me any problems whatsoever and run flawlessly.

Yes Microsoft is a company of people, and some key figures of these people actually made the decision to release a product knowing there were many severe issues. Yes there is no such thing as a perfect product, but at this point of the Surface Book, it is far past the line of just a "product that isn't perfect". I hope you realize that a significant portion of these units are flat out *defective.*When there are people who paid nearly three thousand dollars for a laptop and end up wasting many hours and days trying to get it to work, then realize that the product is simply not ready, how else do you think people will react?

Maybe you are okay with Microsoft treating you as a beta tester after you pay a premium for your device, but from an objective standpoint, that is simply unacceptable.

Microsoft more or less has a monopoly on this market so they believe they can get away with unacceptable business practices, and they aregetting away with it because people like you are simply just taking it without questioning.

Microsoft and Surface team are you going to acknowledge the issue that seemingly everyone is having with connecting monitors to the dock?  

I have two i7 Surface Books and 3 new Surface docks.

• None of the three docks work at all with two monitors connected
• I am using two Samsung monitors (model U28D590D)

The problem may be with your monitors.  I had two Samsung U28E590D and they did not work.  I exchanged them for two Asus PB287Q monitors (also 4k) and magically they connected and would display extended across both plus the Surface Pro 4 monitor.  There are however other display problems , after waking it often goes into spasm, but I can get them working again.  A pain, and not acceptable in the long run, but still a temporary fix.  During a call with MS tech support they told me there was a list of non-compatible monitors, and they emailed these to me on Nov. 7:

This is a known problem with certain monitors.

Because we can't guarantee their performance, we recommend that you do not use the following monitors with Surface devices.

I should add that my problem was originally with a SP4 256, and the new Asus monitors fixed the display issue you describe.  I broke the screen and bought a second SP4 but a 128... it remains a problem.  The 256 worked with a cracked monitor and the Asus monitors (send back for repair 3 days ago).  Hopefully not a hardware issue specific to some machines, and if so I hope the repair my existing 256 and send it back (instead of a replacement 256 that doesn't work!).

I too believe a class action lawsuit is fully warranted in this situation.

Microsoft really needs to start learning that using their paying customers as beta testers is NOT okay at all. Microsoft is wasting thousands of people's valuable time--a good portion of which are billable hours being wasted on Microsoft's incompetence, dysfunctional devices, and completely worthless tech support.

Panos Panay needs to be fired.

Why don't we put away the pitch forks for a while, yeah? Seriously.. take a breath and remind ourselves that these products have only been out in the wild for a matter of weeks. Try to remember that Microsoft is a company of people. Yes, people... and there's probably a whole lot of them trying to get these issues resolved. There's no such thing as a perfect product and getting livid about it is only going to make your (and probably someone else's) day worse.

Being critical is good.. but let's try to be reasonable, civil, and constructive. I'm willing to bet if you own one of these products then you're either 1) generally a fan of Microsoft, 2) a tech enthusiast who enjoys being on the bleeding edge, or 3) both. If any one of those rings true then try to be a useful community member and help in any way we can.

For the record, I don't disagree with the criticism for the lack of communication on Microsoft's part. Though I think we can be much more effective if we put a damper on the negativity and toxicity.

• Extending to just one monitor is hit and miss and rarely works when connecting the SB to the dock
  • Most time I have to either unplug and replug the mini-display port cable into the dock to get just the 1 screen to be recognized and be able to extend to it
  • Sometimes I have to do the above step as well as unplug and replug the Surface Book into the dock to multiple times to get just the 1 screen to be recognized and be able to extend to it
• I cannot connect the SB to the dock without first powering on the SB, then logging into Windows, then plugging into the dock
• If I plug the dock into the SB prior to powering on the SB, the SB screen remains black until I disconnect the dock
• I am using a Logitech MX Master wireless mouse (model 910-004337)
• I am using a Logitech wireless keyboard (model K750)
• The Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse (connected via mini-USB connectors) are the only items that work regularly when plugging into the Surface dock
• I am using two Samsung monitors (model U28D590D)
• The monitors are connected to the Surface dock with a display port to mini display port cable (no adapters)
• I have installed the Windows 10 cumulative update 1511 (KB3118754)
• I have installed both the 11/2 and 11/18 system firmware updates
• I have installed the 11/2 system hardware update
• Embedded Controller: d.5d.1.0
• System Aggregator: 16.d.5502.0
• UEFI: 22.13.39682.0

Please help. Please acknowledge the issue. Please provide us with some sort of explanation and ETA for a fix. We all bought in to the idea of the Surface Book and Surface lineup. Help us, help you, help us continue to love our purchase and decision to jump on the Surface bandwagon.
