Surface Pro 7 charger randomly stops working

I bought my Surface Pro 7 about 5 months ago and the charger has been giving me problems for about a month now. It only sometimes charges and it seems to be random when it does. I have to plug and unplug the charger multiple times in multiple outlets around the house in order for the Surface to recognize it, and when it does I have to leave it be because if I move it in any way, it stops charging again. 

Please if anyone has had this problem or has anyone knows what I could do, it would be appreciated. Not sure if the problem is the charger but it is very frustrating since the device is brand new and I haven't even used it for a year.

To verify if it's a problem with the charger or the charging port, we suggest the following:

• Try a different Surface Charger and check if the issue is resolve.

• Clean the tip of the charger with a cloth, dirt might be blocking the connection. 

• Try the current charger to a different Surface Device.

We recommend following the steps at What to do if your Surface power supply or charger doesn’t work and requesting service if needed.

    I am wondering if anyone has anything charging from the usb port on the charger?

    i have been able to use my charger for about 2 weeks now, the last couple of nights i have been plugging my headphones into the usb port on the power supply to charge while performing downloads on my surface. i have the power settings to while plugged in set to never and 20 on battery, i would wake each morning to find that the power supply did not work and my system had gone into hibernate. the usb charge port and the power going to the surface was gone and would only be restored by disconnecting the power from the outlet, waiting a few seconds, and plugging it back in. i also noticed that the power supply would get warm just charging the surface and get hot with the headphones plugged in. also the charger is 65w which is the exact same wattage as the most power efficient processors on the market. and there isnt any holes for cooling on the power supply. some people are complaining about degradation of performance after only a half a year of use.

    i can only deduce that the power supply is either under wattage for the load an average user puts on it or there is inadequate cooling for the power supply leading to degradation of the components inside.

    the only solutions i can think of would be to add heat sink fins to the outside of the power supply to aid in cooling or find a larger wattage power supply with active cooling.

    do not modify the power supply yourself as it would void the warranty and could damage components.

    I use the USB port on the side of the charging brick to charge my phone and headphones sometimes. I've never felt the brick get too hot but the USB port definitely charges much faster than using a regular USB and power brick into a 110V outlet. If yours gets very hot then it further adds to the inconsistencies in manufacturing of their charging bricks.

    I've noticed that whether the charger is OEM from microsoft or aftermarket from 3rd party sellers, there is random, intermittent discontinuation of charging to the surface pro. From reading this thread, this issue ranges all the way from the Surface Pro 3 to the current Surface Pro 7 and I experience this issue as well. Microsoft initially told us to update the drivers and send in the laptops for "repair" but no solution is ever offered or and their repairs never worked as the problems always returned.

    Their representatives on this forum completely gave up responding to posts in this thread complaining of the exact same issue. It's honestly disturbing that this is their way of handling consumer affairs. I went from losing faith in this company to flat out giving up on buying another microsoft product again.

    Thanks for the confirmation.

    I had a SP 4 before this SP7 and had no such problems.

    But due to the below poor response from MS I too will never buy another of their products and will spread the word of my experience with them.

    I also decided to not by MS laptops due to this problem and their lousy responsiveness, and recommend my friends and family to avoid any MS laptop too.
