Double tap to left click and drag on trackpad

Hello, I was trying to find a way to click and drag by using the Type Cover 2 trackpad without keeping the left mouse button pressed. Most touchpads nowadays register a rapid double click as a "left click and drag" command and, according to the documentation on Microsoft's website, the Type Cover 2 should as well. However, I tried to use the feature both in Desktop programs and UI apps with no success. How to left click and drag without keeping the trackpad's left mouse button pressed?

Edit: called the customer service, and I was told that the team is aware of the issue and that a fix is planned.

With 8.1 update 1, type/touch cover 2 can now perform double tap-drag. All hail lord Microsoft.

Greetings all,

The “Tap, then tap and slide one finger in any direction"  gesture to perform a “left-click and drag” is not supported in Windows 8.1 for precision touchpads such as Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2.

The “left-click and drag” function can be performed on Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2 by holding the left touchpad button down and then sliding a finger in any direction.

We’ll be updating the inaccurate information in Touchpad: A built-in mouse.

    Add me to the list as well, Such a great product but such a crucial flaw. it makes me ask the question. Do the teams building and prototyping the products actually test them. i found the flaw with in 2 min of using it and thought it was a configuration thing... regardless - i would like an update and if we need new kboards there should be a recall/swap out/.. please let me know when any of the above become available 

    I found a work around which was pretty neat, donated the surface and bought an iPad

    Encountered this problem more than a year ago and joined this thread.

    Shambolic and disgraceful handling by Microsoft. When the Surface PRO 3 came out I thought about it but no way I trust Microsoft after this.

    The drivers/firmware seem to have been updated I would say at least a couple of times. The click and drag works but the whole mouse pad and keyboard drivers are very flaky. They stop working almost everyday and to get back working involves one of these actions:

    #1 Disconnect the keyboard and reconnect - works a third of time

    #2 Restart the Windows - works 2/3 of the time

    #3 Disconnect the keyboard and wait 1 hour - occasional

    Never had such low-quality drivers since the mid 1990's.

    For the price it is a complete rip-off.

    This registry change worked for me on Windows 10 on my Surface 4:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad

    TapAndDrag DWORD

    0 = Turn off double-tap and drag

    ffffffff = Turn on double-tap and drag
