Double tap to left click and drag on trackpad

The “Tap, then tap and slide one finger in any direction"  gesture to perform a “left-click and drag” is not supported in Windows 8.1 for precision touchpads such as Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2.

The “left-click and drag” function can be performed on Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2 by holding the left touchpad button down and then sliding a finger in any direction.

 

We’ll be updating the inaccurate information in Touchpad: A built-in mouse.

What a complete joke. How on earth do you justify taking away basic functionality like this? Of course, these are the same people that determined with Outlook 2013, you only would ever want to see the current days appointments on the calendar tool bar instead of also showing the next day as well like it had for years. At least they figured out they screwed up and fixed that one just recently. It sounds like they are just ignoring the people who actually use their products for this one. I'll be returning this Type 2 cover as defective and finding an original Type 1 cover to use instead.

Glad I found this Q & A. I spent a while trying to follow the 'how to' directions, haha. Now I see the directions were (and still are) bogus. Serves me right for stooping to read the manual I suppose.

If you could add the function, rather than redact the manual, that would be preferable. Whichever you do, please aim to do it rather swiftly; following the official directions and not getting a result is annoying.

Hello, I was trying to find a way to click and drag by using the Type Cover 2 trackpad without keeping the left mouse button pressed. Most touchpads nowadays register a rapid double click as a "left click and drag" command and, according to the documentation on Microsoft's website, the Type Cover 2 should as well. However, I tried to use the feature both in Desktop programs and UI apps with no success. How to left click and drag without keeping the trackpad's left mouse button pressed?

Edit: called the customer service, and I was told that the team is aware of the issue and that a fix is planned.

You can go to Control Panel, Mouse and turn on ClickLock.  You'll then hold down left click on an object for a couple seconds, and then be able to drag without holding down the left click.  You disengage the drag by left clicking again...
