Double tap to left click and drag on trackpad

Hello, I was trying to find a way to click and drag by using the Type Cover 2 trackpad without keeping the left mouse button pressed. Most touchpads nowadays register a rapid double click as a "left click and drag" command and, according to the documentation on Microsoft's website, the Type Cover 2 should as well. However, I tried to use the feature both in Desktop programs and UI apps with no success. How to left click and drag without keeping the trackpad's left mouse button pressed?

Edit: called the customer service, and I was told that the team is aware of the issue and that a fix is planned.

With 8.1 update 1, type/touch cover 2 can now perform double tap-drag. All hail lord Microsoft.

The “Tap, then tap and slide one finger in any direction" gesture to perform a “left-click and drag” is not supported in Windows 8.1 for precision touchpads such as Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2.

The “left-click and drag” function can be performed on Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2 by holding the left touchpad button down and then sliding a finger in any direction.

We’ll be updating the inaccurate information in Touchpad: A built-in mouse.

What qualifies as a "precision touchpad"? I just recently purchased an Acer laptop with Windows 8.1 and the touchpad properly handles double-tap and drag.

In any case the Auto Hotkey workaround is sufficient for me on the Surface Pro 2 though obviously not ideal.

But this isn't the thing people are after. It's obvious that you can hold left button and drag, but at least for me the "standard" Tap, then tap and slide doesn't work for either Touch Cover 2 or Type Cover 2. Holding button and drag function is clumsy as **** because touchpad buttons to be honest suck on both Touch and Type Covers (2) of Surface. This is the reason why I personally want it on my SP2. Also as it works in every single other touchpad device I've used it's _really_ awkward to use touchpad without this feature.

Can't believe how hard this can be to get it working with Surface Pro devices. I've thought MS is mainly a Software Company :P

Wow! I am speechless. If there is some kind of hardware issue here, just own up to it. If this was actually a decision by Microsoft to remove this functionality, I can only say that that is a decision worth of Steve Jobs. I bought the Surface yesterday. If this isn't resolved within the return window -- this thing is going back to Best Buy.
