Double tap to left click and drag on trackpad

Hello, I was trying to find a way to click and drag by using the Type Cover 2 trackpad without keeping the left mouse button pressed. Most touchpads nowadays register a rapid double click as a "left click and drag" command and, according to the documentation on Microsoft's website, the Type Cover 2 should as well. However, I tried to use the feature both in Desktop programs and UI apps with no success. How to left click and drag without keeping the trackpad's left mouse button pressed?

Edit: called the customer service, and I was told that the team is aware of the issue and that a fix is planned.

With 8.1 update 1, type/touch cover 2 can now perform double tap-drag. All hail lord Microsoft.

Greetings all,

The “Tap, then tap and slide one finger in any direction"  gesture to perform a “left-click and drag” is not supported in Windows 8.1 for precision touchpads such as Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2.

The “left-click and drag” function can be performed on Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2 by holding the left touchpad button down and then sliding a finger in any direction.

We’ll be updating the inaccurate information in Touchpad: A built-in mouse.

    You could try using http://www.autohotkey.com/ to setup a keyboard shortcut that acts as the left mouse button.  This way you could move the cursor to the window you want to move, press the key of your choice (alt gr, for example) and then move the window about, then release the key. A workaround but it might help.

    I bet this really comes down to some rival holding a patent for tap & drag.  I figured hey, there's got to be some simple 3rd party app I can download that will add the tap & drag functionality, but so far my googling has turned up nothing.  If it isn't patented, someone should go make that app and rake in the dough.

    I just checked in with Microsoft support again and they told me once again that they are aware of the issue and that it has been reported to engineering and that a fix will be coming.  I asked if they had any idea when it might be released and all he could tell me is that most fixes are released on the second Tuesday of each month.

    I'm not holding my breath for tomorrow, but wouldn't it be a pleasant surprise if they issued a fix for it.  We'll just have to wait and see.

    In the meantime, I did recheck the documentation for the Type Cover and they have removed all references to the tap then tap and drag functionality.  Not a good sign in my opinion.
