My Surface Book 2 i7 256gb is experiencing coil whine.

Is there anyway to get around this?

Definitely notice coil whine whenever my SB2 is plugged into charging and on high performance mode. I am concerned about this issue as I was hoping issues like these didn't come with such a high price tag.

Update 8/1/2018:

Thank you for your feedback. We have published a set of drivers and system updates which helps mitigate this issue. This is now available in Windows Update.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

As a temporary workaround, we suggest that when your Surface is plugged into the power supply, click on the battery icon in the Windows taskbar and set the Power Mode slider to either “Recommended” or “Better performance.”

You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface Book 2 update history page.

    Hi,

I am experiencing the same issue and would like a full refund. However I have gone pass the 30 days period (33 days exactly). As all the Surface Book 2 suffer from the same issue would you allow a full refund?

    Thanks

I tried and I have the same noise with the camera on. I've benn browsing all kinds of forum and it's obviously not a case of faulty unit, all the devices experience this coil whine issue on different levels. I thought myself to bring it back but had a lot of work at the time and couldn't go without it for 2,3 or 5 days so I got along with it. I ususally don't use it at it's full potential so I'm not too disturbed by the noise but it remains unacceptable on a machine in that price range. Everything else about this computer is just great and it's probably the best laptop I had so it's a difficult chice. I still hope they'll issue a atch that solves the problem as it's probably just a power regulation issue.

People start to be vocal about it as more customers get aware of the issue (it's out since October only).

    Hope that helped ...

I think they are enough people being vocal about it already. Microsoft should recognize this as an issue. As it stands, we don't know whether this is a hardware or software issue. I do hope it is a software issue and Microsoft can issue a patch. If this is the case, Microsoft should make an announcement to keep its customers informed.

Indeed, this is a great device. Mr Panos Panay did a great job in crafting this device. The 3:2 aspect ratio,  screen res, keybard, trackpad click could have been smoother (but OK) and overall performance are fantastic.

Why let it down with poor quality control? Its a real shame.

I think that right now all we can do is to exchange the SB2 for a new one, hoping and praying that the replacement SB2 doesn't have the coil whine issue also.

Other than making a post here on answers.microsoft.com, is there a way we can petition Microsoft into openly acknowledging that there is a problem here and taking some concrete meaningful actions forward?
