My Surface Book 2 i7 256gb is experiencing coil whine.

Is there anyway to get around this?

Definitely notice coil whine whenever my SB2 is plugged into charging and on high performance mode. I am concerned about this issue as I was hoping issues like these didn't come with such a high price tag.

Update 8/1/2018:

Thank you for your feedback. We have published a set of drivers and system updates which helps mitigate this issue. This is now available in Windows Update.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

As a temporary workaround, we suggest that when your Surface is plugged into the power supply, click on the battery icon in the Windows taskbar and set the Power Mode slider to either “Recommended” or “Better performance.”

    This is rediculous... these Microsoft agents are seeing this as an issue for consumers but their managers aren’t following this up... I regret jumping ship from Apple here, my first non Apple laptop in years and an issue like should of been dealt with through a recall, would be cheaper and have people exchange it 3-4 times. Such a shame because SB2 is such a nice laptop. I am going to go back up mine this weekend in preparation for an exchange.... poor form Microsoft.

    Hey there.

    I know how you are feeling. I have the same issue, but you guys tried out the fix with the energy settings right?

    I understand that this seems ridiculous and it in fact is, but I love my SB2 and wouldn't want to return it. There was a software fix posted earlier in this thread. I am using it and though some people here don't seem to agree it does get rid of 80-90% of the coil whining when the computer is plugged in.

    This whole thing is hilarious, considering that we haven't heard anything from Microsoft about this issue for months, but from my experience it is worth a shot.

    I cannot with certainty tell you what is going on here, but it appears that the normal balanced power plan has some settings that lead to this coil whining. I had some heated discussions with other forum members who think that this solution is crazy and doesn't make much sense, but I have been using it since march and I am still  happy with the result.

    Try it if you want. Maybe it helps.

    I noticed the official response has been updated.

    Just to confirm, after applying the updates, I'm still experiencing the coil whine while in "Better" or "Best" performance mode

    I hope Microsoft will continue working on the issue.

    EDIT:  Actually, I'm still experiencing the coil whine in all power settings while plugged-in.  It appears the update did not resolve the issue at all.
