My Surface Book 2 i7 256gb is experiencing coil whine.

Is there anyway to get around this?

Definitely notice coil whine whenever my SB2 is plugged into charging and on high performance mode. I am concerned about this issue as I was hoping issues like these didn't come with such a high price tag.

Update 8/1/2018:

Thank you for your feedback. We have published a set of drivers and system updates which helps mitigate this issue. This is now available in Windows Update.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

As a temporary workaround, we suggest that when your Surface is plugged into the power supply, click on the battery icon in the Windows taskbar and set the Power Mode slider to either “Recommended” or “Better performance.”

You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface Book 2 update history page.

    I didn't create #SurfaceBook2CoilWhineNoise yet.

I agree that MS should stop selling the device or at the very least make an official statement so that potential buyers are aware of the issue before they buy.

As I am outside of the 30 days return policy, i can't get a full refund. This frustrates me as there is clearly a fault here... If you still can, i would suggest you get a full refund.

Iam now selling my SB  2 privately at a big loss. MS customer support/service has been rude, unhelpful and just simply atrocious.

Yes, probably caught with pants down :-)

And than its fascinating seeing managers telling paying customers that it is all a feature and not a bug.. its a shame.

We are investigating.. oh that is so poor too. As told from the support guy they all know about it. When you know already than the next step would be finding a solution and tell your customers that you already know. Stop selling it as long as its not fixed.

fabriyaou mentioned "#SurfaceBook2CoilWhineNoise" for twitter. I didnt find that? For me there are two options:

Option 1 - Get a full refund. Option 2 - Get a replacement without coil whine.

Maybe do this hastag and see if people reply on that?

@Laya Sagi: are you still investigating?

I'm going through a 3 rd replacement as I write it. You are absolutely correct, software, drivers issues can not be solely responsible for this catastrophic failure. They may add a fuel to a fire if their code lines contain errors. However abnormal behaviour of power maintenance, associated injuries and damages to chargers as well. I have a collection of them already. I'm only an amateur electronic and I can only vouch with my all 4 limbs - there is a systemic failure be it design, testing, components use and location, PCB design etc and any and all options here are possible.

I guess MS middle management may be coming to realisation there is a big elephant inside their product. Perhaps we should start to organise ourselves somehow: exchange through emails other contact details, skype group etc. It is again a pathetic response of big corporation caught with their pants down:

    Lets keep communicating

    J
