My Surface Book 2 i7 256gb is experiencing coil whine.

Is there anyway to get around this?

Definitely notice coil whine whenever my SB2 is plugged into charging and on high performance mode. I am concerned about this issue as I was hoping issues like these didn't come with such a high price tag.

Update 8/1/2018:

Thank you for your feedback. We have published a set of drivers and system updates which helps mitigate this issue. This is now available in Windows Update.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

As a temporary workaround, we suggest that when your Surface is plugged into the power supply, click on the battery icon in the Windows taskbar and set the Power Mode slider to either “Recommended” or “Better performance.”

    no. it exists in battery mode too. disconect the tablet from the base, switch to high performance, listen on the back.

    I have experienced the same issue in games in particular. The higher the GPU usage, the higher the drain, the higher the coil whine. The sound seems to originate somewhere near the charging slot.

    Could it be that the charger 102W misspecification and the coil whine are related?

    That is, if MS knows about the coil whine and thus have created a charger that lacks some watts so that the whine is not so bad? I at least think so!

    Wow 7 pages and no one from Microsoft took any action. Maybe it's time to get consumer report and lawyers into this. I'm back to apple in the mean time.

    Also i assume you are then trading coil whine for fain noieses right?

    The Surface book is usually completly silent for me, which is when you hear the whine the most.

    As for it not being there in Bios, thats not true, at least for the SB2, you can put your ear on the backplate, its still there, just way more faint.

    TBH none of the powersettings make it completly disappear, but just less of an annoyance. Therefore iam wondering if you approach also costs the user the Turboboost.
