My Surface Book 2 i7 256gb is experiencing coil whine.

Is there anyway to get around this?

Definitely notice coil whine whenever my SB2 is plugged into charging and on high performance mode. I am concerned about this issue as I was hoping issues like these didn't come with such a high price tag.

Update 8/1/2018:

Thank you for your feedback. We have published a set of drivers and system updates which helps mitigate this issue. This is now available in Windows Update.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

As a temporary workaround, we suggest that when your Surface is plugged into the power supply, click on the battery icon in the Windows taskbar and set the Power Mode slider to either “Recommended” or “Better performance.”

You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface Book 2 update history page.

One more disappointed customer here. If I'm giving that much money for a powerful device, I want it to be able to perform as intended with all it's power... without drilling my brain with these high pitched, irregular sounds. Opening of browser windows, typing, and even cursor movements change the frequency of the sounds, so it's almost impossible for me to get used to them.

This is my 3rd surface device (previously owned Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 4). So far I've been delighted by using Surface devices, never mind for the few smaller kinks. But this... I already need to pay a hefty return postage fee for the first SB2 device (came with slightly bent clipboard), but by the looks of it, I'll have to pay double the amount.

It would be really helpful from Microsoft to officially acknowledge this problem and communicate do they plan to provide a solution (a la Razer).

Otherwise, this will be my last Surface buy.

    THIS!

Why is there still not an official response from MS?

I have send my SB2 back as I believe that no 2800 euro machine should produce such a noise.

I went through 7 devices. All had to same coil whine noise. Until MS provide a fix, you are wasting time in getting replacements.

In addition to coil whine noises, I noticed that not 2 device are the same. This highlights the poor quality control...

    1. Plastic contour around the screen where the power button seats is loose.
    2. Excessive light bleed
    3. Plastic bumper underneath the base unit warn out
    4. Top section (screen) not aligned with the base unit
    5. Quality control got coil whine noise consistent on all devices :) Well done...

I have sold my Surface Book 2 privately. I have wasted enough time and money with Microsoft unhelpful online support.

Microsoft have lost my business and I will be looking for alternatives from now on.  I should have listen to Consumer Reports which recommends against buying any Surface products. Instead, I followed Mr Panos Panay who says the Surface line has no high volume of costumer returns and is reliable... Of course you will say that...
