Hi all.. Today after I updated my surface pro, my monitor is stuck in a 640x480 resolution. Which is no good with a 49 inch Samsung monitor. If I plug in the HDMI, it works, but, resolution is not that good like it was on the Displayport. Any tips or tricks to get it working again? For some reason it shows 'Flat Panel, 640x480' when using display port, but the samsung drivers when using HDMI.

I am using the surface dock as well. I tried the displayport of the monitor with other computers and it's working fine. Not with surface. Really need help with this one!

    My dock has no USB-C but I tried a USB-C to DP cable from the Surface Pro 7 and that did not work. Mini DP from dock to DP monitor didn't work either.

    WHAT WORKS IS a mini DP to HDMI adapter from the dock and then a normal HDMI cable to the monitor. The solution with the multiport adapter as described before works too.

    I can't understand why MSFT provides no patch in over a years time to fix this problem: mini DP dock to DP monitor or USB-C device to DP monitor should really work, without any workarounds.

    I had the same issue but i believe a wise man on discord has solved it for me. The Samsung Monitor (CHG90) DOES NOT SUPPORT mini dp (dock end) to dp (monitor end). I have been informed you would need an active adaptor in between to make that work. Another “possible” option (lead hasnt arrived yet) is mini dp to mini dp. Only guaranteed option at this stage is mini dp to hdmi. I have spent hours looking at this and it seems the monitor does not support the connection we are trying.

    Displayport connected monitors glitching down to 640x480 seems to be a common problem. I had the problem on with my PC and my 2nd Dell monitor.

    Scouring the internet,

    Solution 1 seemed to be power cycle the monitor. Unplug both the power and Displayport for 60s, plug the power in and then the display port. This seemed to fix a lot of peoples' problems. It did not fix mine.

    Solution 2 I found was go into device manager and delete the issue monitor from device manager (you can tell which is which  in you of the jargon in the properties. Once removed restart you computer (I can't remember if I re implemented Solution 1 at this point just to be sure) but upon reboot my screen showed full resolution again.

    So is there any new update?

    Its alright that you are proactive about whether someone is following the code of conduct and if there is any violation.

    But taking hard-earned money from people and not offering the promised service, that too in complete silence and apathy, is also a violation, but now of moral rules.

    Microsoft and co. are being so helpful in breaking our set up, refusing to address the issue, and actively discouraging anyone who may provide a band-aid fix.

    Microsoft does not allow the redistribution of its software/drivers. It is an

    intellectual property/legal thing, and (not directed at YOU) there are some bad

    folks out there that may alter files and put others at risk.

    //

    Providing instructions on how to use 7Zip (for example) to extract the files

    from the official MSI downloaded from microsoft.com and then instructions on how

    to install a specific driver is fine.

    //

     I'm an unpaid volunteer and do not work for Microsoft. If you want background

    on what a Microsoft MVP is, see https://mvp.microsoft.com/en-us/Overview and for

    Volunteer Moderators see

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/page/faq#faqWhosWho1 and I personally agree

    it is insanely unacceptable to not have a fix after all of this time.

    //

    If I personally had a SP7, I would write up the instructions with appropriate

    "set a system restore point manually and back up any local files" before trying

    this unofficial workaround.
