Hi all.. Today after I updated my surface pro, my monitor is stuck in a 640x480 resolution. Which is no good with a 49 inch Samsung monitor. If I plug in the HDMI, it works, but, resolution is not that good like it was on the Displayport. Any tips or tricks to get it working again? For some reason it shows 'Flat Panel, 640x480' when using display port, but the samsung drivers when using HDMI.

I am using the surface dock as well. I tried the displayport of the monitor with other computers and it's working fine. Not with surface. Really need help with this one!

Then I would request someone to put up step by step instruction for not so intelligent people like me to install such drivers. That would be a great help! Thanks upfront.

This is how I did it...

    Run devmgmt.msc (aka Device Manager)

Open "Display adaptors" --> Double click "Intel..." --> "Driver" --> "Update Driver"

And navigate to the folder containing the driver that works.

Also the snappy driver installer should work to install the old .msi driver

    JD

    I share your pain.

Microsoft have been appalling handling this issue.  In true IT fashion they assume it is all your fault and you must have done something to **** it up.  With so many reporting the same issue it is annoying this issue is not even acknowledged.

The only way I have been able to resolve it (after trying all the things you did) was to purchase a AUD$30 USB-C to HDMI cable which I now connect from my SF7 to my widescreen monitor (QWHD).

    Resolved the resolution issue. TICK

Quality is not as good a Display Port connection

Downside is that I now have two cables connected to my SP7 (dock and USB-C).  The whole point of a dock - even one as connectivity challenged as the Surface Dock - is to avoid this sort of set up.

Will it be fixed? Perhaps.  However my recommendation to any one interested in a SP7 is "do not buy".

I should say my Surface Go doesn't suffer this issue.
