Monitor stuck on displayport with 640x480

Hi all.. Today after I updated my surface pro, my monitor is stuck in a 640x480 resolution. Which is no good with a 49 inch Samsung monitor. If I plug in the HDMI, it works, but, resolution is not that good like it was on the Displayport. Any tips or tricks to get it working again? For some reason it shows 'Flat Panel, 640x480' when using display port, but the samsung drivers when using HDMI. 

I am using the surface dock as well. I tried the displayport of the monitor with other computers and it's working fine. Not with surface. Really need help with this one!

    Hi Wolfgang,

    Totally agree with your frustration and before I found (got lucky) with a solution I was going to send my devices back. The bit I cannot understand is why so many of us have found different ways of 'fixing' the problem.

    I do have the full ultra wide resolution now on my Surface Laptop 3 - using an usb-c to DP cable through my Surface dock.

    I would be interested to hear if the same cable setup works for you.

    Hi, I just got my Samsung 49" monitor last week and could not believe what happened when I connected it with my Surface Pro 7 which I got just a week earlier: there was no way to increase the resolution from 640x480 via displayport.

    The second thing I could not believe was when I found out through this thread that this problem exists since over a year now...and every now and then people post here the same problem, occasionally with "crazy solutions".

    Why "crazy"? Well, I am not a computer scientist! I want to unpack the devices I buy and then connect them...thats it. The work around with HDMI works, but it is not the same as displayport...and I want 100Hz.

    Is there really no easy solution to that problem yet? A solution that does not involve setting drivers back to old versions ect which I simply don't know how to do. Actually I do believe that can not be expected from a normal business user.

    I found a second work around to the HDMI cable myself by the way but that is also not what I want...I want my docking station to do what it is supposed to do. The second work around is to plug in "USB-C Multiport Adapter with 8k DisplayPort &PD" (you can get it for a few bucks at Amazon) and connect that with a normal DisplayPort cable.

    I don't believe this is the issue because it worked for me before on my surface pro 6. It was only when I got a new SurfaceBook that it stopped working. I did however solve this myself by using HDMI instead of display port.

    Hi,

    I spent considerable hours over the last few days trying a number of suggestions on here. Even wiped my machine and reinstalled Windows (that part was overkill and a mistake - I admit).

    Anyway I type this evening on my Surface Laptop 3, with a USB-C to Display Port direct cable, connected through a Surface Dock 2 to a Samsung Ultrawide monitor. I have also tried this directly through the laptop and both work.

    The game changer for me was definitely the cable. It only arrived today until that point I was trying USB-C to HDMI cables and convertors.

    I am still using a backdated driver (05/08/2019 - 25.20.10.7101) - not sure if this is or is not needed but not changing as I am just glad to have the 2nd monitor working and I do not want to tempt fate.

    I did also update my dock 2 firmware and Surface firmware at some point over the last few hours also.

    I hope someone finds this useful, I apologise if not and wish you all the best of luck getting this fixed.
