Hi all.. Today after I updated my surface pro, my monitor is stuck in a 640x480 resolution. Which is no good with a 49 inch Samsung monitor. If I plug in the HDMI, it works, but, resolution is not that good like it was on the Displayport. Any tips or tricks to get it working again? For some reason it shows 'Flat Panel, 640x480' when using display port, but the samsung drivers when using HDMI.

I am using the surface dock as well. I tried the displayport of the monitor with other computers and it's working fine. Not with surface. Really need help with this one!

So, I had this problem around the January update for my SP7 i7/256 hooked up to two different Dell monitors (2414H and 2415) through the Surface Dock. The funny thing is one monitor (2415) worked, but the other (2414H) was stuck on 640x480 resolution. But I took Barbara(?)'s advice from earlier this thread and rolled back my driver for the Intel Iris Plus Graphics to the older one, and both monitor went back to working fine. I know this error did not come from the dock because I was running this same monitor setup with my old SP3 and had no trouble whatsoever.

Recently, seeing how Intel was offering driver update to their Iris Plus Graphics outside of Windows Update, I decided to try an update and see if things work out. I installed the 27.20.100.8190 version, restarted SP7, but the 2414H monitor was now stuck on 640x480 resolution. Kind of disappointed, I was ready to roll back but decided to try another advice offered somewhere in this thread. I enable Displayport 1.2 on my 2414H monitor, and everything worked. (Well I did have to change my frequency from 59Hz back to 60Hz, changed originally to 59Hz due to another advice in this thread, to eliminate flickering.) But now both monitor works at their native resolution connected to the dock with the most updated driver.

I have tried most of the basic advice (reset SP7, reset dock, update stuff) when I first encountered this problem, but none of them worked for me so I rolled back the driver. But changing the Displayport version on my monitor made it all work.

My monitor has DP and HDMI 1.4, so HDMI is not a desirable solution because that would restrict the refresh rate to 30Hz.

Am still waiting for a fix from Microsoft and to unblock my own community account which they promised to do after a 30-day suspension.

    Frustrated!

I agree.  The workarounds are unreasonable for this issue and undesirable.  This should have been fixed a long time ago. I used the driver roll back solution and the DP is now working, but that is very complicate for most users and the current drivers should be fixed.  These surface devices are too expensive to have these kind of problems and NO RESPONSE FROM MS!

    Same here.

Bought new setup with SP7, surfacedock en samsung C49.

The workaround with older drivers did the trick

(for users who can't find the work-arrond link: https://borncity.com/win/2020/02/07/surface-pro-7-laptop-3-fix-for-640-x-480-mode-update-issue/)

    I've spent  +- € 2000,- when does Microsoft create a sollution!!

Here is the December 2019 bundle for Surface Pro 7. It should include the drivers

    https://download.microsoft.com/download/0/8/b/08b0f0ba-1571-41c0-9b8a-9af8a43681ae/SurfacePro7\_Win10\_18362\_19.103.34215.0.msi

Here is the November 2019 Surface Laptop 3 Intel:

    https://download.microsoft.com/download/3/f/4/3f4f5dff-b6a9-4006-87aa-142a8e6f77cb/SurfaceLaptop3\_Win10\_18362\_19.112.27190.0.msi

Just extract all the files with something like: msiexec /a c:\testfile.msi /qb TARGETDIR=c:\temp\test

and then install the graphic drivers manually.

    Hi Jeremy Pretty,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

You mentioned that you are also using a Surface dock and the monitor's resolution is still stuck on 640 x 480 resolution. Well, I'd like to know if you also updated the firmware of the Surface dock and if you have tried disconnecting the monitor from the dock as well as from your Surface Pro 7.

If you haven't disconnected it, you can simply do that but I would like you to clear the display cache first before reconnecting it again. To clear the display cache,  you can simply follow the solutions highlighted in this link: Troubleshoot Connecting To A Second Screen. See Solution # 5 to clear the display cache.

On the other hand, I would like to know what kind of dock is it. See pictures below .

If the one you're using the first one, then the issue you're now experiencing is due to compatibility issue but if it is the second one, then you'll need to make sure that the firmware of the Surface dock is up to date.

    To update the firmware:

Click "Download" from this link : Surface Dock FwUpdate and install the Surface dock FWupdate. Disconnect/reconnect the monitor and see if this works right this time.

If this helps, please let our Community by marking this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread for assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Crest_Z
