Surface Pro doesn't wake up from Standby

When I put my Surface Pro into sleep mode (not hibernate, as I disabled that using powercfg -h off  via command line), pressing the power button, Windows button, or pressing keys on the keyboard will NOT wake it up... the screen stays blank, although I can press the Windows key and feel it vibrate as to acknowledge that I've pressed it.

My only solution is to power off the device and then power on, which is not ideal for obvious reasons.

I have not made any changes to power profiles or the device, and I've spent quite a bit of time installing my software and copying files... I really don't want to reset it if I don't have to. I have already installed all available Windows updates.

Any advice?

This from that other thread I referenced appears to have resolved the issue:

  1. Open Device Manager from the Control Panel or however you normally open it
  2. Expand Network Adapters and double click Marvell Avastar 350N
  3. Choose the Power Management tab and make sure the checkbox is checked for Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

Thanks all!

Leo

Have you altered the wireless network card in Device Manager to not allow the computer to put the device to sleep to save power via the Power Management tab on the card? I had inadvertently done this and it caused my Surface Pro to not wake properly.

To clarify for anyone else running into this:

  1. Open Device Manager from the Control Panel or however you normally open it
  2. Expand Network Adapters and double click Marvell Avastar 350N
  3. Choose the Power Management tab and make sure the checkbox is checked for Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

    Hi Macca250,

Are you using a Surface Pro device? Did you also do the commend line to change the power settings like OP did? Do you have all update installed? If not, please do so.

Please try the following steps and let us know how it goes.

    • Run Power troubleshooting
      1. Go to Desktop and swipe from right to Charms
      2. Tap Control Panel and choose Troubleshooting
      3. Choose View All on the leftand choose Power
      4. Tap Advanced and check Apply repairs automatically
      5. Follow the on-screen instructions and click Next

    Kind regards,

    Clare

This tab no longer exists. Microsoft disabled it in an update last year from what I read. Is there a way to change this setting from the command line?

I'm experiencing the same issue but can't find the 'Power Management' tab. It seems to have been disabled as you've said. Does anyone have an alternative fix?

    Thank you!

I put this in feedback from Windows 10. It hurt to write it.

    Connected Standby/Wifi Surface 3 Pro

Unreal. I have played with 10 from the start. Fresh install on SP3. Exact same grief as 8.1.(There is no point in listing the issues as you ARE way more than aware.)

I am at loss for words as I am a seasoned IT professional. My gripe is likely a SP3,SP2 issue. Fix the stuff you already have.

Connected standby is so unreliable. Wireless is brutal. Three versions and countless firmware updates...SAME issues.

I setup a corporate account at an MS store recently. We will never use it again. 100 employees will never have the experience I had. Lucky them! I am a steadfast MS soldier...who had no choice last year but to go to Apple for a mobile solution. We spent stupid amounts of money an software development and bough boxes of Ipad/3g.

All this is tied to the only thing you guys seems to get right...server software/Sharepoint. I am sure there are many people who would hate to admit this.

$1600 plus, plus per device and this is what we get. We purchased 3 about 6 months ago. Two went to savy users and one to me.

I am sad to announce that only one remains, for me...the Admin. In their boxes waiting for the next inter office raffle.

    Shame.

Just take 1 thing from Apple...only one. Dont release Hardware/software untill it is READY.

A $5000 hit for us is enough to never take a chance on your hardware again.

It honestly breaks my heart to watch the double down take place.
