Surface Pro 7 Slow WiFi

This is my surface is my first and the comments out here I am starting to regret the purchase and even giving Microsoft a shot. 

I have the same problem.

WE should not be required to JUMP THROUGH HOOPS to get this fixed.

These machines are $1500 plus (my pro 7 16gb mem 256 ssd 10th gen I7)

and Microsoft is not stepping up to the plate?

Wouldn't have this issue with HP or Lenovo.

I am warning you Microsoft you can give me my money back if this does not get fixed

I am just out of my 15 day return period by 5 days.

If this is not fixed asap remember Microsoft customers talk and post telling the stories that will not help your company sell your hardware

so keep dragging your feet 

it will not bode well with the Microsoft community!

WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?????

Having just received my brand new Surface Pro 7, I was experiencing the same almost non-existent wi-fi download speeds on all wi-fi networks at all times.  I found the solution to my problem.  On my system, if the Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter is not enabled (i.e. not listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters), my download speeds were pathetic.  On the other hand, if the Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter appears in Device Manager, I get proper download speeds.

As best I can tell, the only way to get Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter to appear in Device Manager is to either (1) be actively projecting to a wireless display (obviously not a suitable option) or (2) change the option in All Settings | System | Projecting to This PC, to allow other devices (with  your permission) to project to your device.  This option enables the Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter.  You'll need to adjust the other related settings if you want good speeds on all networks (even unsecured ones) and/or when your Surface is running on battery.

This is obviously not an ideal solution, but at least its a good work-around until Microsoft and/or Intel fixes the buggy wi-fi driver.

I wanted to add a little fuel to this fire.

I noticed my surface 7 (i5) was only managing about 20MB/sec on our 50MB copper connection. I lived with it, but yesterday upgraded to fibre.  I get 375MB/sec on my hardwired desktop and over 200MB/sec on an old Dell laptop, and my old ACER core i3 with 802.11ac

My surface initially showed 375 on speedtest, but some time later was back to 20 MB/sec. Resetting the router bought it back to 375, but, yet again, some time after it was back to 20. If I do a channel scan on the CISCO router, speed goes back to 375 for a while, but then back to 20. 

Seems like anytime I poke the router the speed temporarily goes up but not for long.  All of this is assuming the various speedtest modules are in fact accurate. I've tried a number of them.

This is frustrating when a cr@ppy old Dell and a $250 ACER laptop can routinely manage well over 200MB/sec and my Surface7 only 20.

Microsoft: please fix this!

I want to let everyone know my latest testing and it is GREAT news!!

This testing was all conducted on wireless 802.11 AC  (i don't have AX wifi 6 yet) using my surface pro 7 I7 with 16 gig memory (which should not matter with testing wifi)

1. DO NOT USE SPEED TEST app by ookla from MICROSOFT STORE!!!    The ookla web page test was a little better but i think ookla has problems.   Totally bogus readings!!!!!  OOKLA last year speed testing was AWESOME but they did something that has screwed up their service last year and OOKLA has not been the same since and I am now dropping ookla from my life them like a lead balloon.                                     
2. NOW to the good stuff. My router internet is gig speed as indicated here 936 down 947 up
3. my DEVICE(surface pro 7) speed from Verizon web based app for my device is awesome 357 down 508 up
4. this is also verified with SPEAKEASY.NET (i used to use this web page a lot but stopped... I am bringing it back into use from now on.  313 down 434 up
5. so I placed the surface pro to sleep to test again when it awakes.  There is still a problem with Surface pro 7 waking up with speed testiung BUT not like what I though with the bogus OOKLA STORE APP  Verizon web based speeds 105 down and 312 up and from SPEAKEASY.NET web base speed check and 290 down 263 up

IN conclusion, There is a problem with the speeds when the surface pro 7 wakes up but nothing like the bogus OOKLA app was giving me and I was led to believe.  

MY suggestions to all for moving forward step by step:

1. make sure you surface pro 7 is up to date with WINDOWS and SURFACE updates
2. reboot your router
3. then reboot your surface pro 7
4. open a browser and use https://www.verizon.com/speedtest/ (not sure if it works on non verizon network but please try) and also use  https://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/  (this will work on all networks) your results will make you happy.
5. then put your surface pro 7 to sleep
6. then wake your surface up and retest speed tests

Let me know what your results are....

Again there is a slow down when waking from sleep but with a gig speed network it is not that bad.  If your band width is smaller your results may be a lot less and waking from sleep may make you pull your hair out...... if so get a faster internet.

MY results have given me hope for the Surface Pro 7 and I am extremely happy with my purchase.  MICROSOFT needs to fix the wake up wireless issue.

Thats testing the speed of your internet connection not your actual network speed. There will be too many variables regarding server speed at the other end, etc I would suggest a read of this.
