Surface Pro 7 Slow WiFi

Hello everyone,

I am working with my new Surface Pro 7 i5 one or two days now and unfortunately, I still have severe wifi issues after installing all updates. Speed is between 0 and 1,250 kbit/s.

After searching for this issue, I found several entries describing this kind of problem and some workarounds like setting the MIMO Power Safe Mode to a different value. (as described here) I did all this but still, there is no improvement. 

Any other suggestions on this? Is this a known bug? Is there a patch on its way? Is Microsoft working on this?

Any help is greatly appreaciated.

    I even spent a couple of hours with Microsoft support - reload this, reload that, nothing worked. I have come to accept 20MB/sec is my speed despite my 350MB/sec service. Luckily my $250 ACER core i3 laptop can manage 300MB/sec. You would expect a $250 3 year old ACER to outperform an $800 Surface 7.............wouldn't you?  ;-)

    I immediately got an improvement in download speed after changing one or two adapter settings as suggested above. I was getting around 20Mbps when other devices on the same desk were getting near 100Mbps.

    1. 802.11n/ac/ax Wireless Mode -> I forced to 802.11n, since that's what my router supports.
    2. Throughput Booster -> Enabled

    Of course I want a boost to throughput! Why would I ever want this disabled?

    We have found if you are using a speed check program by Ookla can give you false readings with cable companies.

    Look at intel's site for ax201. The new driver released in May- 21.90.3 helps the slow wifi issue more with my surface 7. My wired network speed runs from 850 to 950 and now the wifi speed is up in the low 400s. Vast improvment over surface when I got it. The first driver had slower 5GHz speed than the 2.4GHz band speed.

    I did not use the Ookla speed test as a reference. I was using http://speedtest.xfinity.com/ and a game download of several GB using Epic Games Launcher.

    Prior to the settings change, the xfinity speed test was reporting ~20 Mbps. Epic launcher reported ~2 MB/s download speed.

    After the settings change, the xfinity speed test reported >90 Mbps. Epic launcher reported ~10 MB/s. (The reported download speeds were also consistent with what was shown in Task Manager.)
