Surface Book 2 Trackpad and Keyboard Lag

Hi. I have a brand new, i7 256 Surface Book 2 with an annoying problem. The trackpad and keyboard both exhibit huge lag when running on battery power, with anything less than "Better Performance". Even then, it's not perfect unless you go for the 'Best Performance' setting.

When running in battery mode, it's easy to appreciate that more people might be using the trackpad rather than a mouse (for portability) so why this won't function properly on the lower power saving modes, is confusing to say the least. One would expect the keyboard to work cum-what-may.

I've never experienced this issue with my Surface Pros and feel rather disappointed given the cost or the Book 2.

Any fixes please, other than disabling the two-finger pinch to zoom function?

*** I no longer seem to be experiencing this issue ***

I'm having the exact same problem on my Surface Book 2 15" i7. Even typing this reply on battery power in "Recommended" is lagging in Microsoft Edge. They seriously messed something up in the most recent firmware updates.

Can we get a comment from @MICROSOFT please? This issue is all over the internet.

The problem is related to the way the trackpad device reacts to battery performance/efficiency settings.

Microsoft claims this device is best-in-class... this is a great opportunity to prove it.

I'm now suspecting that these issues are related to the Meltdown and Spectre mitigations. Mine seems to be better after I turned them off, and looking back it does seem like they started after the patch and firmware update. So, I'm hopeful that once Microsoft gets a handle on resolving Meltdown and Spectre without killing the machine's performance, we'll be in better shape.

But it would sure help if Microsoft would let us know what's up. If it's NOT Meltdown/Spectre causing this, then it's absolutely unacceptable performance from a $3000+ notebook.

Okay, I did some additional testing and I'm taking back what I wrote above. I hadn't been using my SB2 15" on battery life (mine was lagging when plugged in), and it's just as bad as it was before I turned off the mitigations. At times, it's almost unusable.

Definitely not related to the Meltdown/Spectre mitigations...

I got my SB2 15" on 11/16 and this issue was there day 1. Others online have also seen this well before the shinanigans recently.

I suppose it's possible that I only started noticing the lag, so I won't dispute that. The bottom line remains that it's a huge issue and Microsoft neds to address it.

I took back what I wrote earlier. On battery, it's not just as bad as before I disabled the Metldown/Spectre mitigation.
