Hissing noise with new Microsoft Surface Earbuds

I'm an early adopter - got them on the day of release.

There appears to be a glaring issue, and I wonder whether they're particular to only my pair.

Basically, whenever there is about to be sound played - such as unlocking of the phone, start of a phone call or music, white noise hissing appears, sometimes with a "pop" and then lasts about 2-3 seconds after the sound stops. Even if no sound is played, quick locking or unlocking of the phone results in a 3 second noticeable white noise hissing sound.

Please advise. Does anyone else experience this issue?

    I wanted so much to love these. I was also an early adopter - I followed every development for weeks and months and ordered them the first day the pre-ordered opened and got mine the first day they were available.

    I also bought them specifically for Teams usage and I agree with you - they are completely unusable.  There is a hissing/static at the end of anyone's voice and you cannot really fix or mitigate it. I tried two pairs and ended up returning them both. I also paired them with a Jabra bluetooth 5.0 link380 dongle to see if that helped, but the problem persisted.

    Of course, there are already compromises with the low bit rate audio required by the handsfree profile mode in bluetooth, but these are the worst bluetooth device I have ever tried for calls (and I have tried many, many earbuds and headsets).

    Do yourself a favor and do not buy these if you plan to use them for Teams.

    What updates did you apply? 

    I agree, outside of Teams, they work really well. Unfortunately, I use Teams all day and there's a tinny or hissing noise at the end of the words that people are saying. It's so annoying that I turn the volume down to 2 or 4 on my pc to try to eliminate it. 

    Other earbuds like the Jabra Elite 75t don't have this issue. (Although they have other issues)

    From everything I've been able to gather, it seems like an issue in the way the sound is calibrated while using Hands Free Profile mode in Bluetooth. 

    I've already started the return process because I also wasn't sure how long I had before I'd be stuck with them.  Hopefully it can be fixed because they are pretty good otherwise!

    As with anything....you have to look at the positive......the design/look - they look like good golf ball markers for when I'm on the green.

    I'm leaning towards returning mine. I can't figure out how long I have to return them.

    Any idea how long I can wait for an actual answer from Microsoft before I get stuck with them?

    just bought it yesterday and have the same problem using my Samsung S10+

    Well, I have bad news for you. A Microsoft engineer reply to me stating that this hissing is there by design. Therefore, the further firmware upgrade will not fix the issue. It needs to be redesigned from the ground up.

    I would take this as a valid excuse, but I also noted that none of their competitors have such issues. I was done advice to return the item.
