This is quite infuriating as my PC won't come out of sleep mode unless I detach the tablet and then reattach it and then hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Am I doing something wrong? I haven't changed any settings

Hi,

If your Surface won’t wake up from sleep, try to simultaneously press the Windows logo key +Ctrl+Shift+B.

Here are some solutions that you can try to help resolve the issue.

Force shutdown your device

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (this takes about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

Install the latest Surface and Windows updates

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface Book 2 update history page.

Clean the connectors on your Surface Book

  1. Detach the Clipboard from the keyboard.
  2. Clean the pins on the connector with a pencil eraser. Rub the eraser back and forth across the pins.
  3. Wet a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Clean the pins on the long, narrow part of the charger that you plug into your Surface. Rub the cotton swap back and forth across the pins. After you are done cleaning the connector pins, make sure that the pins are dry, and then reattach the Clipboard to the keyboard.

If none of the solutions work, I suggest that you bring your device to a Microsoft Store near you and have it checked by one of our personnel. You may also contact our Microsoft Support team for further assistance. If you're outside the US, contact our Global Customer Service.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Hi there! I have found a fix for that particular problem. The way I have solved it is by running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit, and then download the driver from the Nvidia page. You will need to look for the one of your Surface considering if you have the one with a dedicated GPU. Once you download and install the driver (I recommend it to do is a clean installation) I am sure that the issue will be fixed. Good luck!

My surface book 2 is a little over 3 months old. I am having trouble with turning it on while it is attached to the keyboard. It will turn on if i detach it. This problem just began less than 2 weeks ago.

    Hi Dale,

Running the Power Troubleshooter automatically checks Windows power plans and detects your system settings that affect the power usage. To run the troubleshooter, follow these steps:

    1. Go to Settings.
    2. Click Update & Security.
    3. Choose Troubleshoot.
    4. Click on Power, then click on the Run the troubleshooter button.

If running the troubleshooter doesn't work, run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. The diagnosis and repair takes about 15 minutes as it would check for both Windows and driver updates. It will automatically install any missing Windows update or driver and firmware update for your device. Click **here**to learn how to run the toolkit.

Force shutdown your device to ensure all updates are applied.

    1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
    2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo.

If that doesn't work, use this shutdown process to make sure your Surface completely turns off. Here’s how:

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (this takes about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

    Try to clean the connectors.

    1. Detach the Clipboard from the keyboard.
    2. Wet a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol. (Use 95% isopropyl alcohol or higher if possible.) Clean the silver pins on both faces of the three connectors located on the top middle surface of the keyboard hinge. Rub the cotton swab back and forth vigorously to clean the pins. Use a fresh swab to clean each of the connector faces (six in total).
    3. After you're done, make sure the pins are dry and that there are no cotton fibers on the connector. Reattach the Clipboard to the keyboard.

Performing a clean boot may also help resolve the issue. It is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This eliminates software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. On how to perform a clean boot, click on this link.

If you continue to have this issue even after performing the above steps, please reply to this thread. The system will notify me so I can get back to you and provide you more answers.

    Regards.
