Surface book 2 power button not working unless I detach and reattach

This is quite infuriating as my PC won't come out of sleep mode unless I detach the tablet and then reattach it and then hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Am I doing something wrong? I haven't changed any settings

Hi,

If your Surface won’t wake up from sleep, try to simultaneously press the Windows logo key +Ctrl+Shift+B.

Here are some solutions that you can try to help resolve the issue.

Force shutdown your device

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (this takes about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

Install the latest Surface and Windows updates

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface Book 2 update history page.

Clean the connectors on your Surface Book

  1. Detach the Clipboard from the keyboard.
  2. Clean the pins on the connector with a pencil eraser. Rub the eraser back and forth across the pins.
  3. Wet a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Clean the pins on the long, narrow part of the charger that you plug into your Surface. Rub the cotton swap back and forth across the pins. After you are done cleaning the connector pins, make sure that the pins are dry, and then reattach the Clipboard to the keyboard.

If none of the solutions work, I suggest that you bring your device to a Microsoft Store near you and have it checked by one of our personnel. You may also contact our Microsoft Support team for further assistance. If you're outside the US, contact our Global Customer Service.

    surfacebook2 15" windows 10 pro 1803.

    I need a help with Surfacebook2 Detach button issue started when it got updated to 1803.

    Here is the issue. 

    when surfacebook2 is shutdown under docked position. now pressed detach keyboard button while surface book is power off:

    -->> surfacebook2 power ups as if pressed power button and detach button turn red, upon haft way boot up detach button turns green and display disconnect from the base keyboard.

    when sb2 is shutdown in un-docked position. docked it back on keyboard, now pressed detach keyboard button while surface book is power off: -->> sb2 undocked as it should with green flashes 

    when pressed detach keyboard button while surface book is on:

    -->> surfacebook2 detach button turn red and then green and display disconnect.

    from device manager I disabled NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060.

    surfacebook2 detach button works just fine in any condition surfacebook2 on or off. except due to disabled NVIDIA surface detach button error pops up on task bar

    to resolve this issue I did updated suracebook2 with latest firmware 18_022_09

    talked to Microsoft phone support about 3hrs - virtually not helpful  - I feel they don know what they are doing.

    stop by at local Microsoft Store tech support - guy says seat tight - next firmware may resolve the issue

    Any help will be appreciated

    I fixed the problem after hours of talking to surface tech

    Surface Book 2 15 ich

    so the problem is because of the graphics card drivers not being recognized, try this, 

    go to device manager 

    then display adapter,

    if you don't see NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 then you have a graphic driver issue.

    what worked for me was first under divice manager uninstall everything under other devices, so all the unknown devices are uninstalled, 

    then reinstall the graphics card, here is the name of the file to google 

    SurfaceBook2_Win10_17134_1802209_1

    then after installed and restarted your computer, detach the keyboard and restart the tablet by itself, wait until it is loged in to windows then attach it,

    to make sure the problem is solved see if the NVDIA drivers are back from device manager

    GOOD LUCK!!

    It's a bit unreal that months later there's still no fix by Microsoft. Other laptop manufacturers would've patched this by now based on my own experience.

    Carried this out and it was good for the day but back to having that same issue now. Is yours still working ok?

    spoke to microsoft support and run few a few things. Again, fixed for the day but after an overnight sleep back with the same problem. Love the laptop but this issue is making me want to send it back. 

    I am trying to reopen my ticket with MS
