Surface book 2 power button not working unless I detach and reattach

This is quite infuriating as my PC won't come out of sleep mode unless I detach the tablet and then reattach it and then hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Am I doing something wrong? I haven't changed any settings

Hi,

If your Surface won’t wake up from sleep, try to simultaneously press the Windows logo key +Ctrl+Shift+B.

Here are some solutions that you can try to help resolve the issue.

Force shutdown your device

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (this takes about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

Install the latest Surface and Windows updates

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface Book 2 update history page.

Clean the connectors on your Surface Book

  1. Detach the Clipboard from the keyboard.
  2. Clean the pins on the connector with a pencil eraser. Rub the eraser back and forth across the pins.
  3. Wet a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Clean the pins on the long, narrow part of the charger that you plug into your Surface. Rub the cotton swap back and forth across the pins. After you are done cleaning the connector pins, make sure that the pins are dry, and then reattach the Clipboard to the keyboard.

If none of the solutions work, I suggest that you bring your device to a Microsoft Store near you and have it checked by one of our personnel. You may also contact our Microsoft Support team for further assistance. If you're outside the US, contact our Global Customer Service.

    I am having this same issue. My surface book 2 will not power on after a shutdown or after hibernating unless I press the detach button. After pressing the detach button to power it on, I will recieve a detach failure message in the lower right icon tray. This is my second surface book 2 that this issue has happened with. The first was replaced at my local microsoft store because they couldnt explain it. Based on the comments in this thread it appears there is no resolution which is frustrating considering this computer costs over 2k. At this point I would rather have bought something else. 

    Hi - i thought reinstalling the firmware had fixed it but apparently not... stuck with same problem as others report here and can only turn on by pressing detatch button. Microsoft - can somebody please help?!

    Furthermore, I realized that some of my keyboard keys will not work from time to time. Right now, the "two", "(sea)", and "windows" button will not work....

    Please get us some answers, Microsoft.

    Hi Voun:

    I have the same issue l ran

    and it is now working but you have to push the power button for 6 to 7 seconds BUT when detach, it only needs one  second to power on ; please advise

    Hi,

    After periods not within the hour of switching the surface book 2 on, the device does not turn on despite manually trying to turn the device on. The only way I can have the device respond to the manual on-button is to click the 'detatch screen' button next to delete - then the device will respond to manually switching the device on. I have installed all the latest updates and have had no other issues with this device. I bought the surface book 2 earlier this year.

    There is no option when attempting to troubleshoot, can you tell me exactly what to type or another way to remedy this issue.
