My i5, 8G, 256G SP7 went on well in the first 12 days and then suddenly shut down while I was surfing the Internet; after rebooting, all programs that were running before the shutdown had been terminated. Then the screen suddenly got very bright and freezed,
which could only be gotten out of by pressing the power button for a forced reboot.
The shut downs occurred around battery level 50%, with or without the type cover attached. Also, I have noticed that it seems to occur whenever an application that has not been used for some time is opened. For instance, yesterday I had been surfing the
Internet for 2 hours with no issues, until I opened Outlook to check my e-mails.
Things I have tried:
- Disabling hibernate
- Installing the firmware update mentioned in this thread
- Resetting to its factory settings
None of the above worked. I am vacillating between returning it immediately and giving it another try.
