If the device stays idle for a minute it directly shuts down. I have checked all the sleep and power settings and that's not an issue. I see this was an issue in previous versions too. **Any fix?**There are some answers to this which might have worked for some (marked as answer), but definitely not for everyone. If you face it, I strongly recommend returning it as the stress during this whole process is ridiculous and not worth it.
UPDATE:
After going through returning and rebuying 4 surface pro 7 devices (thanks to Costco). I decided to ditch it. The worst part is that Costco has essentially banned me from buying any laptops from them, even though I repeatedly told them that the devices were having issues. I just loved the device for its utility and I really wanted it to work out. Microsoft and Costco should beashamed** of this.
The first 3 devices were returned in <1-2 months. The 4th one stayed longest (3 months), not because it was perfect but because of the pandemic. I loved the device in general. I was hoping I would not have problems with the 4th device. I did not have the random shutdowns but I started having

Feedback from our Microsoft contact yesterday was:
I’ve been advised that Microsoft is working on an update which will resolve the random shutdown issues with Surface Pro 7’s and Laptop 3’s – this is a known issue and Microsoft are working to fix this.
Windows 2004 has been pushed back for Surface devices and is due to be released this month so this should resolve all known issues
Take it back, get a refund and buy a new one.....if you end up returning the one you have to MS they will send you a replacement.....yours is new to you, a replacement could be refurbished return....dont leave it to late to return....
There are thousands with this issue which MS haven't yet resolved.
My 1st Surface in my entire life. Really exited when I unboxed. Purchased May 11, almost a month. The first 3 days was fine, install here and there. On the following days, it starts overheat and on that 5th day, it shuts down for 4 times if I'm not mistaken. Really pissed and disappointed for my purchased and my impression in good. I hate my first Surface and I hate myself why I never search for reviews before buying it. Just talked to one of Microsoft Support Team to help me with, she run some test and have been restart my SP7. But still, the problem didn't fix it. Item sucks.. Sad... :(
Well folks here's a new one. The Brightness slider that was always at the top of the Display Settings screen has completely disappeared. I can't adjust the brightness of my SP7 screen whatsoever, as I can't locate the setting anywhere else in the system.
