I have not yet heard of either of those issues yet. I installed all updates but firmware ones. I intend to leave my device set to manually install updates until I know for sure its safe to install the firmware. I also want to see how my device behaves before
I update the firmware.
My new one, as well as my old one, has a SanDisk 64 Gb SD card installed that I leave in there all the time. After the December firmware and before the January firmware, my unit would turn on is own, often in the sleeve I keep it in, thus getting very hot.
This no longer happened after the January 18th update. However, my device did not properly show the battery indicator, as many have reported. If I did the magic power on with volume up keys, it would reset it for a while, but eventually the battery would
revert back and the gauge was wrong.
I have never had the issue of the screen brightness resetting either. So you had these issues before you updated the firmware from January 18th?
For those who are wondering, my current battery full capacity of the new device is over the expected capacity according to the battery report.
I would still like to know how to find out what version of firmware I have.
Screen Brightness set to 100% on cold boots with SD Card inserted:
This issue was present in all my 3 x Surface Pro 2 units out of the box.
I could set the screen brightness to 50% and shut down the system.
Upon rebooting, the moment I slide up the lockscreen the brightness would jump to 100% again.
I call it the blinder, because it was very blinding in dark conditions.
Client Server Runtime (csrss.exe) chew CPU to bits stuttering the unit:
This issue was clear and present in all my 3 x Surface Pro 2 units out of the box - when cold booting with SanDisk Ultra 64Gb MicroSD card inserted. Sometimes it takes 30sec to present itself. Have Task Manager on auto-start, Sort your view by CPU process
highest on top and keep watching that naughty process.
System (ntoskrnl.exe) and System Interrupts hogging CPU:
This Jurassic issue was clear and present in all my 3 x Surface Pro 2 units with newer than original firmware - when cold booting with SanDisk Ultra 64Gb MicroSD card inserted. It was not as bad as the csrss.exe CPU hogs, but battery wrenching none the
less.
Every firmware updates I run into were the hopes that these issues would be fixed.
No such luck.
Oh well, all geniuses have evil qualities and I guess the SP2 is no exception.
