System Firmware Update - 12/10/13 fails to install

Got the updates on todays patch Tuesday, but the firmware update failed to load.  Rechecking for an update does not give the opportunity to try and reinstall.

Anyone else having this problem?  I do notice that my telemetry driver is now loaded. so not sure what is going on here.

Josh,

We are working through the holidays to deliver a fix for the small number of customers that have experience decreased battery life and booting/sleeping problems as a result of the December update.  We took the update down to prevent additional customers from ending up in this state. All hardware failures, none of which are known to be caused by the December update, are being handled promptly through our warranty exchange policy.

The UEFI firmware that we released in the December update prevents some devices from entering sleep mode (and other low power states) properly during periods of inactivity. In order to release an updated version of the UEFI firmware we need to test the new version with the other drivers in the set to make sure we are not releasing yet another unknown state to customer machines. We certainly feel your pain and assure you that we are doing everything possible to make this right, as quickly as we can.

Greetings all,

We understand that the February Firmware Update has fixed the Battery gauge issue and the Firmware showing as failed. However we can see that there are some customers who are still experiencing issues with their Surface Pro 2 going into Sleep mode and Hibernate.

So we can better track those particular issues, we have decided to close this thread off. We encourage you to create a thread related to your Surface Pro 2 not going to sleep or not going into Hibernate. Please give as much detail as possible to your scenario.

We understand that the February Firmware update did not resolve the issue with waking from Sleep or Hibernate, as it was not intended to fix that particular issue. We are continuing to work to deliver a high quality solution. More updates will become available as this effort progresses.

The February update has resolved all issues for me.  The firmware installed with no issues.  Prior to this, I had all sorts of problems with the December firmware.  Sleep and hibernate issues were rampant.  The January update helped a bit, but the battery meter was always getting off calibration. 

With the February update, all issues have been resolved and my Surface 2 128gb is working as it was prior to the December updates.  Very solid and all is back to normal.

    I too noticed a second firmware update today of some kind but just as you said, I got no flashing-the-bios on reboot.

    I too have been keeping an eye, via battery-report on my device. I did a full drain and recharge of my device in hopes the battery would be properly calibrated but alas, it is still messing up.

    It will be discharging and then show 100%. When I run battery report, my "Full Charge Capacity" dropped from the ~40,000 it was to ~34000. It will likely keep doing this through out the day. i do not get any sense that the device isn't lasting me a long time, it just keep changing its mind on what the full charge capacity is.

    I still have a device in my device manager that claims it is "unknown" but when I update it tells me its the cover telemetry.

    The only fix I seem to have gotten from the firmware update in January was that my device stopped waking up on its own, which would cause significant drain and warmth when in my bag.

    This whole December firmware update and mess is really disappointing.  I have now been for over a month with a rather expensive device that is not functioning properly at all. A useless battery gauge that doesn't do me any good in knowing how much battery lasts.  The device was working perfectly fine before they released there "improvements".

    Microsoft was already lagging behind in the tablet space and this fug up is not helping their cause at all. They better get their act together and quick.  An 82 page thread on Surface Pro 2 devices not working right?

    New Surface Pro 2 Core i5-4200.

    I too had reluctantly installed 2 x additional Jan-18-2014 updates since the first. Wishing and hoping these updates would fix the Cold-boot with MicroSD card vs High CPU Saga. "Not a chance!" said Micro-Soft. Plus I should have waited and studied the release notes.

    -  2nd Jan-18 update rolled out on 22nd Jan 2014

    -  a 3rd installment of the same name was on 23rd Jan 2014

    Results:

    1.  Immediately after the 2nd installment, I found myself asking "Why why why why why whyyyyyy!" the battery life seemed to suffer greatly I could only get about 3hr of use.

    2.  Next day, the 3rd installment Jan-18 update rolled out and fixed that.

    These updates were one doze of speed followed by another doze of sleeping pills.
