Got the updates on todays patch Tuesday, but the firmware update failed to load.  Rechecking for an update does not give the opportunity to try and reinstall.

Anyone else having this problem?  I do notice that my telemetry driver is now loaded. so not sure what is going on here.

Josh,

We are working through the holidays to deliver a fix for the small number of customers that have experience decreased battery life and booting/sleeping problems as a result of the December update.  We took the update down to prevent additional customers from ending up in this state. All hardware failures, none of which are known to be caused by the December update, are being handled promptly through our warranty exchange policy.

The UEFI firmware that we released in the December update prevents some devices from entering sleep mode (and other low power states) properly during periods of inactivity. In order to release an updated version of the UEFI firmware we need to test the new version with the other drivers in the set to make sure we are not releasing yet another unknown state to customer machines. We certainly feel your pain and assure you that we are doing everything possible to make this right, as quickly as we can.

Thank you,

Tim

Greetings all,

We understand that the February Firmware Update has fixed the Battery gauge issue and the Firmware showing as failed. However we can see that there are some customers who are still experiencing issues with their Surface Pro 2 going into Sleep mode and Hibernate.

So we can better track those particular issues, we have decided to close this thread off. We encourage you to create a thread related to your Surface Pro 2 not going to sleep or not going into Hibernate. Please give as much detail as possible to your scenario.

We understand that the February Firmware update did not resolve the issue with waking from Sleep or Hibernate, as it was not intended to fix that particular issue. We are continuing to work to deliver a high quality solution. More updates will become available as this effort progresses.

The February update has resolved all issues for me.  The firmware installed with no issues.  Prior to this, I had all sorts of problems with the December firmware.  Sleep and hibernate issues were rampant.  The January update helped a bit, but the battery meter was always getting off calibration.

With the February update, all issues have been resolved and my Surface 2 128gb is working as it was prior to the December updates.  Very solid and all is back to normal.

Thanks to the two preceding UK respondents.

Boy, I'm glad I have unchecked the October firmware option.

And once more (MS are you reading this?) I have never had such problems with firmware/os since I started using Windows (NT 3.5) as a refugee from Mac's crash-o-matic 90s pre os 10.

A disgracefully insulting lack of concern for Surface purchasers - and we're not even "early adopters"...

    Roy

    I'm in the UK. SP2 256GB.

I had a failed December update, and all the various problems that are described on here. Refresh didn't sort anything out, but I've been managing OK with erratic Wi-Fi and messed up hibernation the main problems.

Yesterday I saw the October firmware update again (I had already installed it), and let it install again. Now I'm seeing more problems than previously - including battery meter displaying 'plugged in, not charging' and then on restart 100%, and sleep seemingly messed up too.

I think I thought that the October firmware couldn't do any harm as I had it installed already, and that maybe it was going to install again and then let the January firmware install. Doesn't seem that way. Just seems to provide a new selection of random problems from the menu.

M/S support had told me the new firmware was coming on 14/1 so I'm not best pleased. They also warned me that there aren't many new 256GB models anywhere, so I'm not sure advance replacement will be ideal either. I don't want to drop down to the 128GB as I want 8GB RAM.

I could try and return the device as unsuitable (not to M/S, bought elsewhere) - but it's been more than a month now. I actually want the SP2 though. Maybe I'll just return it and wait for the SP3 to come out.

I'm actually trying to use the SP2 to replace my work laptop and iPad (and pad of paper and pen), so the whole thing is getting beyond a joke now. So much potential, such poor execution in terms of firmware but also in terms of communication. Considering this is the flagship attempt from M/S to move into innovative PC hardware and show what Windows can do, it's not being run very competently.
