Got the updates on todays patch Tuesday, but the firmware update failed to load.  Rechecking for an update does not give the opportunity to try and reinstall.

Anyone else having this problem?  I do notice that my telemetry driver is now loaded. so not sure what is going on here.

Josh,

We are working through the holidays to deliver a fix for the small number of customers that have experience decreased battery life and booting/sleeping problems as a result of the December update.  We took the update down to prevent additional customers from ending up in this state. All hardware failures, none of which are known to be caused by the December update, are being handled promptly through our warranty exchange policy.

The UEFI firmware that we released in the December update prevents some devices from entering sleep mode (and other low power states) properly during periods of inactivity. In order to release an updated version of the UEFI firmware we need to test the new version with the other drivers in the set to make sure we are not releasing yet another unknown state to customer machines. We certainly feel your pain and assure you that we are doing everything possible to make this right, as quickly as we can.

Thank you,

Tim

Greetings all,

We understand that the February Firmware Update has fixed the Battery gauge issue and the Firmware showing as failed. However we can see that there are some customers who are still experiencing issues with their Surface Pro 2 going into Sleep mode and Hibernate.

So we can better track those particular issues, we have decided to close this thread off. We encourage you to create a thread related to your Surface Pro 2 not going to sleep or not going into Hibernate. Please give as much detail as possible to your scenario.

We understand that the February Firmware update did not resolve the issue with waking from Sleep or Hibernate, as it was not intended to fix that particular issue. We are continuing to work to deliver a high quality solution. More updates will become available as this effort progresses.

The February update has resolved all issues for me.  The firmware installed with no issues.  Prior to this, I had all sorts of problems with the December firmware.  Sleep and hibernate issues were rampant.  The January update helped a bit, but the battery meter was always getting off calibration.

With the February update, all issues have been resolved and my Surface 2 128gb is working as it was prior to the December updates.  Very solid and all is back to normal.

First of all... I am not wiping the machine I have spend so much time configuring with specific programs, settings, etc.  If the Microsoft plan is to add a lot of extra work for me... this solution you have posted would be an excellent idea.  But alas... I have a life, and can't spend all my time trying to jimmy-rig a fix to the MS problems.  The Surface Pro 2 Black Sleep of Death issue is a problem THEY CREATED and THEY NEED TO FIX!!!!  Pardon my French, but all of us trying to dick around with this is just stupid.  Why can't MS just get the product right so we can have a nice overall user experience.  Not wake-up each day going "gosh... I sure hope my very expensive device powers up today".  That just basically sucks!!!

HELLO MICROSOFT (knock, knock, knock).  HELLOOOOOOOOO (knock, knock). ARE YOU THERE?????  ARE YOU SEEING THESE POSTS ON YOUR OWN FRIGGIN BOARD????  How about finally doing something to fix this for the customers you do have so they don't end up using Apple products as well???  Spend some time and money on us getting this fixed for God's sake, and less time trying to figure out who will be your next CEO will be so you can throw ridiculous amounts of money at them.

HELP US OUT HERE!!!!  HELP HELP HELP!!!!   Machine won't wake-up!!!!  ALERT... ALERT... THIS IS A PROBLEM!!!!!   HELLOOOOOOOOO!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Here's what worked for me and it'll work for those who performed Reset to Factory Settings.

    1. Download the October "Surface Pro 2 firmware and driver pack" HERE and extract it onto a USB drive.
    2. Wipe your Surface Pro 2 tablet to its default factory settings.
    3. Once that is done, Get ready to fix your Surface Cover Telemetry Driver.

Before "Windows Update" gets its chance to run and permanently cripple your type cover telemetry, insert your USB drive containing the October "Surface Pro 2 firmware and driver pack, and open your Device Manager.

Under the "Unknown Device" Right-click to manually update its driver.

Look for \October2013SurfacePro2\Microsoft\SurfaceCoverTelemetry\SurfaceCoverTelemetry.inf and let it install.

    Done!

    1. Run your first Windows Update and restart.
    2. Right after you've restarted, all systems are go, except for the Ethernet, Wireless and Bluetooth.

Again, insert your USB stick with the same driver pack.

Open Device Manager and Right-click to install the driver for the missing "Marvell Avasta" (Bluetooth driver).

You don't have to dig around to the .inf file for this one, look just under October2013SurfacePro2\ and let it install.

Repeat the process for the new missing Wi-Fi driver that pops up next. And Woohoo!

    You're done!

Let me know how it goes.
