The e-mail that I got said "Surface Pro," not "Surface Pro 2.......". Try reading it again and see if the former is not what's in your e-mail, too. I think that MS is intent on getting rid of the last of the original SP's.
If they've been sitting on shelves all this time, their batteries are aging, too, so it won't be like getting one hot off the assembly line, besides the other obsolescence factors growing with every passing month.
Jealous are we? I made the decision in late December to buy a $599 SP1 from Best Buy after comparing features and specs, and realizing that the differences between the SP1 and SP2 boiled down to a slightly faster 4th gen CPU and longer battery life. Considering
I'm "testing the waters" of the device (and already knowing how much I dislike Win 8.1) I found saving $400 outweighed a few hours extra battery life.
FWIW, my decrepit SP1 has a build code of 1323, which makes it what, mid-2013? You consider that aging? I'm guessing many SP2 build dates aren't far from that date.
And, the biggest advantage of my SP1 over your SP2? Mine works. No firmware bugs so mine is fully functional and I get to enjoy it to the fullest every day, while many SP2's are sitting, unused (and unusable) growing older...
Maybe you can list the "obsolesence factors" that are affecting my SP1 that I should be aware of...I'm curious what's going to keep me from using my SP1 that (at the same time) won't be affecting your SP2, considering apart from a different CPU, our units
are practically the same...
I am sympathetic for everyone with a problematic SP2. I'm sure it's frustrating, but I had to address the "logic" regarding the SP1 vs SP2.
A good friend of mine upgraded from a 128GB SP1 to a 512GB SP2 because he needed more storage. I asked him how he liked his SP2 and he said it didn't really seem noticably faster, but he does like the extra storage. I'm glad I have an extra $400 in my
pocket. :)
