Same here. I just got of the phone with Microsoft. They're sending out a replacement, but the agent said there's no way to request a new unit instead of a refurbished one. Fingers crossed.
I got my replacement yesterday. They told me the same thing. I received a 4200 cpu. It also came with only 9% battery life. I strongly believe it is a REFURBISHED machine, sadly. I paid for the Extended Warranty. I did NOT Expect to get a refurbished
machine which may already have had too much heat itself. This is a sad state of affairs.
I would say it's a toss of the coin what you will receive. Good luck!
**BTW, the Surface Pro 2 512 GB Tablet which I am returning is S/N: 061004334153.**It overheated. It had turned itself on inside the padded case during a one hour trip and was egg cooking hot upon retrieval. It had intermittent issues with inop
ear jack, inop keyboards... didn't matter which cover... it'd overheat and wouldn't recognize any type or touch cover without a shutdown. It had lost it's Product ID and Windows Activation and wouldn't/couldn't Activate Windows which popped up every 15 minutes-ish.
It also did the random turning itself on whenever it felt like, and the battery wouldn't keep a charge yet was indicating 100% at all times and so had to keep it on power at all times.
BTW, the replacement has loaded, no problems. I did change the updates to manual selection and have not allowed any firmware updates at all to be installed. The feedback on them has been varied so if it is working, I'm NOT fixing it with questionable
firmware updates.
It took a bit of time to get it reloaded, but it works well. It was a heck of a lot easier to setup because with Skydrive and my Microsoft account, it remembered a lot of my settings and configurations. I just had to reinstall my software, printer, and
my files. It is humming nicely. (Fingers are crossed that it stays that way!)
Thank you Microsoft
