Got the updates on todays patch Tuesday, but the firmware update failed to load.  Rechecking for an update does not give the opportunity to try and reinstall.

Anyone else having this problem?  I do notice that my telemetry driver is now loaded. so not sure what is going on here.

Josh,

We are working through the holidays to deliver a fix for the small number of customers that have experience decreased battery life and booting/sleeping problems as a result of the December update.  We took the update down to prevent additional customers from ending up in this state. All hardware failures, none of which are known to be caused by the December update, are being handled promptly through our warranty exchange policy.

The UEFI firmware that we released in the December update prevents some devices from entering sleep mode (and other low power states) properly during periods of inactivity. In order to release an updated version of the UEFI firmware we need to test the new version with the other drivers in the set to make sure we are not releasing yet another unknown state to customer machines. We certainly feel your pain and assure you that we are doing everything possible to make this right, as quickly as we can.

Thank you,

Tim

Greetings all,

We understand that the February Firmware Update has fixed the Battery gauge issue and the Firmware showing as failed. However we can see that there are some customers who are still experiencing issues with their Surface Pro 2 going into Sleep mode and Hibernate.

So we can better track those particular issues, we have decided to close this thread off. We encourage you to create a thread related to your Surface Pro 2 not going to sleep or not going into Hibernate. Please give as much detail as possible to your scenario.

We understand that the February Firmware update did not resolve the issue with waking from Sleep or Hibernate, as it was not intended to fix that particular issue. We are continuing to work to deliver a high quality solution. More updates will become available as this effort progresses.

The February update has resolved all issues for me.  The firmware installed with no issues.  Prior to this, I had all sorts of problems with the December firmware.  Sleep and hibernate issues were rampant.  The January update helped a bit, but the battery meter was always getting off calibration.

With the February update, all issues have been resolved and my Surface 2 128gb is working as it was prior to the December updates.  Very solid and all is back to normal.

    Hi Microsoft Team

First off I love my Surface Pro 2 - it is a fantastic machine... that was until December.

The December firmware update tried to install 3 times and failed.  I was travelling overseas and outside of my normal routine so did not even know this had occurred.

However, the day it failed my colours on my screen began to appear dithered.  In the blacks of photos highly pixelated gradation now appeared.  As I am a photographer and use my Surface Pro 2 heavily for editing photos so this is really not acceptable.  It looks like the colour had turned into 16 bit colour.  I dived into the graphics settings and could not seem to change anything that would fix it - nor could I update the graphics drivers.

The other major issue that appeared in December was the sleep wake issue others have reported.  The first time this happened was during an 8 hour flight. I had shutdown my Surface as required by aviation restrictions and put it away in a neoprene sleeve.  After landing and removing it from the sleeve I found it on with the fans running at full bore and it was burning hot to the touch.  This has happened two other times since (the most recent yesterday but only for the 30 minute ride home from work.  I am worried that this may have damaged my Surface internals - things shouldn't run this hot.

My battery life is now also terrible.  I used to use my Surface all day at work - now I have to leave it at my desk as after 3 embarrassing meetings where I had the battery suddenly cut out during a presentation it is just too risky (which had not been a problem prior to December).

I was patiently waiting for the rumoured Jan 14th update - yet there has been nothing.

One month now of what was an amazing device being useless for my main use cases - photo editing and presentations for work.

What is also sad is that I have been a big fan of the Surface having 'sold' around 20 to friends and family - i.e. recommending they buy one.  Now though I cannot recommend it until the firmware issues are sorted.

Does anyone know when the new patch will arrive to sort out these graphics and battery issues?

    Many thanks

    Andrew

Swipe in from the Right to get Charms > SETTINGS

at the bottom, tap > CHANGE PC SETTINGS

    on the PC SETTINGS page

    at the bottom

    tap > UPDATE & RECOVERY

    tap > WINDOWS UPDATE

    then

first, I recommend to consider selecting >

CHOOSE HOW UPDATES GET INSTALLED dropdown window

    > CHECK FOR UPDATES BUT LET ME CHOOSE WHETHER TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THEM

    second tap >  VIEW DETAILS

(UN-Check anything you don't want installed)... it lists updates by type including FIRMWARE

third  tap >  VIEW YOUR UPDATE HISTORY

(You can always copy/paste the update number into a search engine to get more specifics, too.)
