Surface Book 2 - Fans are noisy / loud after update

Hi,

I updated my surface book 2 (13 - i7 - 1050) today from the build 1809 to 1909 with all updates/firmware.

I have noticed that the behavior of the fans has changed. My laptop got a lot noiser during load and even audible at idle.

Now the fans are extremely noisy/loud at load even when i'm changing the power modes (slider)

For example, on the previous build 1809, I was playing Witcher 3 in better performance mode and fan noise was perfectly acceptable.

Now regardless of the power mode, the fans are very loud.

I don't think i'm the only one with this problem.

The only solution found by the community is to restore a previous version ( build 1809 whose support will end at the end of the year).

I would like microsoft provide a real answer other than launching their diagnostic tool and i hope they will record it as an issue in order to follow the resolution. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4055398/surface-book-2-update-history

I'm having this issue too.

After went through this thread ...

I don't think I got the chance to fix this issue.

But at least, I save some time to telephone the customer support.

Have you updated to the latest firmware? This issue resolved itself for me recently with an update. I think it was the latest firmware (but it might have been a Windows 10 update).

The CPU does seem to run a little hotter than it did before the update that started the turbo fan issue. However, I bought a cheap lowish speed USB desk fan and that actually works far better than I expected (keeps the CPU something like 15C cooler than not running it) when I sit it behind the SB2 and point it at the back of the lid/tablet.

I fixed this issue by doing a HARD RESET. :)

(holding power button for 20-30 seconds)

Maybe try undervolting your cpu, this actually helped to reduce temps on my i5-8350U with intel uhd 620. My laptop was suffering from excessive power limit throttling and undervolting helped me to fix my power limit throttling issue and also reduce my temps like crazy! My SB2 is now running at 40 Degrees with some basic load like light browsing and when I play games on it like MC Java my temps reach up to 70 degrees.

Not only did my fan start sounding like it was revving up for a street race after the update... but today it when into full throttle and then completely died. I called them to ask about repair and they told me to run the machine until the thermometer popped up on the screen showing that it was over heating and THEN call them back. Soooo.... basically... wait until it blows up and then maybe they’ll help me.

FYI... this is my work computer. I’m not even playing games on it and the fan still failed. I wouldnt be so upset if I could get someone to fix it... swiftly!
