Surface Book 2 - Fans are noisy / loud after update

Hi,

I updated my surface book 2 (13 - i7 - 1050) today from the build 1809 to 1909 with all updates/firmware.

I have noticed that the behavior of the fans has changed.  My laptop got a lot noiser during load and even audible at idle.

Now the fans are extremely noisy/loud at load even when i'm changing the power modes (slider)

For example, on the previous build 1809, I was playing Witcher 3 in better performance mode and fan noise was perfectly acceptable.

Now regardless of the power mode, the fans are very loud.

I don't think i'm the only one with this problem.

Some examples :

The only solution found by the community is to restore a previous version ( build 1809 whose support will end at the end of the year).

I would like microsoft provide a real answer other than launching their diagnostic tool and i hope they will record it as an issue in order to follow the resolution. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4055398/surface-book-2-update-history

And if someone has an idea / solution I am interested ! Thx.

Regards,

Frederic

    Hi,

Good news for me and i hope for you :)

Yesterday i saw the August 2020 update and decided to update my SB2.

I updated Windows to the 2004 version with all up-to-date firmwares.

And after testing with some games, i'm very glad with the behavior of the fan and the cpu heat.

I'm not sure if this will work for you, but at the moment i'm very happy with my sb2 (thanks to some tweaking (MSI afterburner and ThrottleStop).

    Regards,

    Frédéric

My computer was fine until the 2004 update. As soon as the the Surface book 2 updated, the problem with the fans and overheating started any time I play any Roblox game.  I rolled back to the previous version of windows, but the problems remained. The only thing that has helped at all is to completely disable the Nvidia GPU.  Of course now the performance is terrible.  Microsoft needs to fix this!

Thank you for the information! My machine hadn't received the firmware update yet, but I manually downloaded and installed it and it seems to be working properly, or at least better than before. The constant fans have definitely stopped, and the throttling seems to to be better as well. I'm still running Windows version 1903 and will probably postpone upgrading to 2004 just to be safe.

I would be interested in hearing what tweaks you made with those programs to improve performance!

    Hi Kinakay,

I'm glad it worked for you.

For your request for my setting, I made a thread in reddit.

I am not a native English speaker so I hope you will understand me.

I also add links to other resources in my thread.

I don't know your computer skills but tweaking CPU and GPU should be done with caution.

Im having the same issue., since the update my fans are loader and its heating up alot more.

I am also having another issue, when i put the machine to sleep (close lid) it starts heating up while in sleep mode. even if i turn on flight mode and turn off the internet, it still heats up in sleep mode. im at a loss at what to do. because its a potential fire risk....
