Surface Book 2 - Fans are noisy / loud after update

Hi,

I updated my surface book 2 (13 - i7 - 1050) today from the build 1809 to 1909 with all updates/firmware.

I have noticed that the behavior of the fans has changed.  My laptop got a lot noiser during load and even audible at idle.

Now the fans are extremely noisy/loud at load even when i'm changing the power modes (slider)

For example, on the previous build 1809, I was playing Witcher 3 in better performance mode and fan noise was perfectly acceptable.

Now regardless of the power mode, the fans are very loud.

I don't think i'm the only one with this problem.

Some examples :

The only solution found by the community is to restore a previous version ( build 1809 whose support will end at the end of the year).

I would like microsoft provide a real answer other than launching their diagnostic tool and i hope they will record it as an issue in order to follow the resolution. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4055398/surface-book-2-update-history

And if someone has an idea / solution I am interested ! Thx.

Regards,

Frederic

They are responding with non-sense. There isn't a corrupted file left on my pc to cause such an issue, since I had to install a new Windows 10 version on my SB2 because of previously trying to system restore to a previous version of Windows that didn't put my fans into overdrive.  So Microsoft should correct a problem that they have caused to their community. These machines aren't cheap and aren't easily replaceable for some.

    Hi Fredric,

I too, experience this same loud noisy fan after windows recent update to my Surface Book 2.  As you have done, I rolled back the updates and went to a previous restore point.

Unfortunately I couldn't keep from the window update forever and felt forced to install it. I rolled back to another restore point, this time it didn't translate so well and ended that Windows OS with a blue screen error and wouldn't load up at all.

I have since installed a brand new Windows 10 OS, reinstalled all new apps and video card driver to my Surface Book 2, and as well as the most recent windows update. And have the LOUD NOISY FANS still.  It's like the fan speeds have been increased by 10 surface book 2 isn't even running hot. Hope Microsoft looks into this and updates the remedy to their creation.

Thank you for the information! My machine hadn't received the firmware update yet, but I manually downloaded and installed it and it seems to be working properly, or at least better than before. The constant fans have definitely stopped, and the throttling seems to to be better as well. I'm still running Windows version 1903 and will probably postpone upgrading to 2004 just to be safe.

I would be interested in hearing what tweaks you made with those programs to improve performance!

    Hi,

Thanks for your answer but the only solution for me was to restore to a previous version.

I just want to share 2 videos i made in order to show the behavior of the fan after the update.

Same setting : Power mode better performance

    CPU : Default

    GPU : Default

After the update of may 2020 : fans are extremely loud when i focus the game frame but when i unfocus, fans become much silent and the game is still running fine - https://screenrec.com/share/

Restore version : When i restore my previous version -  build 1809- I  have no difference when i focus or unfocus the game frame - https://screenrec.com/share/z0SVMnpA3l

    Hope this help.

    Regards,

    Frederic.
