Surface Headphones making a static sound.

I just got my Surface Headphones yesterday, and have noticed that when I am walking around and make a quick sudden movement that causes my headphones to jostle on my head they make a static type of sound. It is particularly bad in the left earphone. I have adjusted the noise cancelation and sound volume, but every time the Surface Headphones jostle on my head I hear the static sound. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so is there any fix for this issue?

    Hi DustinBonham,

Just to make sure we understand your concern, every time you listen to music there is a static sound? Am I correct?

For us to further assist you, we would like to ask some questions.

    1. Have you tried to check what audio profile set on your device?
    2. Have you tried to check if the equalizer was changed to a setting that could cause the issue?
    3. What device you are using to pair with your Surface Headphone?
    4. Are you using an app as an audio source on your device? If Yes, what are they?
    5. Have you tried to check if there's a firmware update available via app?
    6. Have you tried to test and pair it with another device?

Here are the few things we suggest you do:

    1. Restart the app or the audio source and then open it again.
    2. Turn off the headphone by pressing and release the power button. Then, press and release the power button to turn it on.
    3. Restart your device.

Keep us posted of the outcome. Thank you!

    Hello Abygaille_A,

Yes the static sound is when I am listening to music and the headphones move on my head, such as, when jogging, turning my head quickly, or simply adjusting them.

The audio profile and equalizer are set to the default settings. I have not changed any of the audio settings since I got the headphones. My Surface Headphones are paired with a Galaxy S9+ and a Surface Book 2. I am using Spotify as my audio source, and all songs are already downloaded on both devices so I am not streaming the music as I am listening to it. There are no firmware updates available. I have paired it with 2 devices and I doubt pairing with a third would change anything since I am having the same issue with my Galaxy S9+ as well as my Surface Book 2.

I have restarted the apps, I have cycled the power several times on the Surface Headphones themselves, and I have tried restarting my devices. None of this has had any affect on the issue I have described.

    Hi DustinBonham ,

Thank you for the information. For us to further assist you, we would like to ask some additional questions.

    1. Does the static sound appear only through Bluetooth connection? How about using the audio cable connection?
    2. Does the static sound appear when you play music from both devices at the same time or individually?
    3. Have you set up your Surface Headphones with the Cortana App or the Surface Headphones App?

In the meantime, kindly check this following link: First, Reset Surface Headphones and then Set up Surface Headphones with Bluetooth or Set up Surface Headphones with Cortana.

Keep us posted of the outcome.

I've been having the exact same issue. Static or wind type sound out of one of the headphones if I move them a bit. Moving the headphone solves the issue for a few seconds, but then promptly restarts. Using Spotify for music on my Surface Book 2, setup with the Cortana app.

I took mine into a Microsoft Store and they had never heard of anyone experiencing this issue before. They gladly replaced them with a new pair. If possible I would recommend taking them into a Microsoft Store and have them look at your Surface Headphones.
