Can surface pro x sq2 run Minecraft Java and install recent versions of OpenGL ?

Graphics is on fast, and the others I've played with some, but not lowering it quite as much as you say. I'll try your suggestions. I think it's playable for building or survival type games; not sure I'd do any serious pvp type games, at least not yet. It's probably not very well optimized yet, and the Java for ARM64 is still in pre-release anyway. But hey, it runs!

Try with F1 (without rendering GUI). U can also test with shift+F3 and you'll see pie chart and details how many percentages is used. GameRenderer is probably most time-consuming. If it has prefix [1] you can press 1 and you will see time spent for GUI and for level (GUI should be most too - chat rendering is not optimized). It's also without optifine, with optifine I think it could be better. On GTX 1050Ti & i7-8700k without Optifine I've about 230 fps, with about 460 fps (on the same PC, the same world and Minecraft settings, with F3 enabled and with GUI enabled).

Thanks for the addition tips. I got side-tracked replicating your json file for 1.17.1 so hadn't played with the settings much yet. It does seem faster without the GUI, but also seems a bit faster just without having all the F3 details up.

I am curious why you recommend ditching most of the java arguments... have you found them to impact performance?

I've read for some the pre-release OptiFine for 1.17 isn't always faster, so I guess we'll see how the final release turns out.

I've played around with the settings some more, and this is what I've settled on that seems to give decent performance:

The resolution unfortunately results in black bars on the top and bottom, so I do wonder if there might be a better resolution for the Pro X's screen. Though it doesn't take long to stop noticing it.

I've played some on a "paper" minecraft server plus hypixel.net:

It's smooth and responsive enough for at least mod fighting and parkour challenges, but I haven't played a pvp game yet (I'm not all that great at minecraft pvp so I'm probably not a good test monkey for that).

At this point I'm pretty happy with it. When I upgraded to Windows 11 I thought I was going to be thrilled with finally getting access to the x64 emulation, but honestly being able to play Minecraft Java edition on it has pretty much made me forget about that (and technically you don't even have to switch to Windows 11 to get Minecraft working).

Did you try playing at 2 chunks not 6 chunks so you might probably gain better performance also that I’m also bad at pvp too
