Duo 2 Android 12L breaks calling

Since the Android 12L update, I have not been able to make or receive calls. Incoming goes straight to voicemail and outgoing immediately ends calls. Carrier is T-Mobile. I suspect the issue is the same at what happened with the AUS phones as listed here Android 12 Breaks Calls — ZenTalk (asus.com)

This required an update to get the calls working again. Is there such as update in the works as right now my due 2 is just a tablet that cannot make calls.

Everything else works btw even calls with WhatsApp and teams

  2. Take out your current SIM.
  3. Insert a SIM from a different mobile operator (not your existing mobile operator).
  4. Press the power button to turn on your Surface Duo 2 and sign into your device.
  5. Once the device connects to the mobile network, press and hold the power button for a couple of seconds, and then choose the Power off option to turn off your Surface Duo 2.

I had to swap the SIM for the second time last Wednesday, 11/30/2022, to receive and initiate phone calls. I started a DM with T-Mobile tech support and per the technician "the "Fix" flow I have found advises me to do something we call "send to switch" which occurred on Friday, 12/02/2022. Hoping this is a long-term fix and that this information assists others.

I did try a full network reset with no improvement. Others have noted a full hard reset of the device also did not help. So far the only consistent workaround has been the SIM swap, but it appears to only be temporary (days or weeks) until it needs to be done again.

Does your Bell Canada SIM experience the same issues? So far this has only appeared to be an issue with T-Mobile and budget carriers riding on TMo's network. In which case it is not directly a Microsoft issue. The working theory being discussed is that T-Mobile is incorrectly identifying the phone as a Surface 3 all of a sudden, and pushing down incorrect configuration some time post-SIM insertion. Other carriers have not been noted so far with this behavior that I have seen. T-Mobile customers need to open cases with T-Mobile to bring awareness.

I did have issues where I was unable to answer incoming calls and other issues related to 12L update or since I updated to 12L. Now I did reset my Wi-Fi, mobile and Bluetooth about a month ago I have not had any issues with my Duo 2. At least for me that has fixed the issues I had with 12L update on my Duo 2 on T-mobile . I have not had issues since the reset.

    Setting>System>reset option>reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth and restart Duo 2.
