Keep Bluetooth Keyboard on, always

I have the Microsoft Surface Ergonomic Keyboard (bluetooth only).  I notice it falls asleep after a few minutes of me not using it (while I'm on a phone call for example).  When I go to type it has to wake up after I hit a key one/two times.  This is frustrating, obviously.  Is there a way to keep the bluetooth always on?  I don't care if battery runs down.  NOTE:  I'm using the keyboard with MacOS Sierra 10.12.2.

That's not the case, I'm using it on Windows 10 and have the exact same behavior. I only recently started noticing it I think because when I with it, I'm using a Logitech G13, so not using the keyboard itself as much.

WHen I got chat in game, and I touch the keyboard, the whole PC stops like when a BT device connects, then the keyboard/pc respond and I can type. Seems like it's less than 5 minutes of "idle" time before it happens. It'd be nice if it could tie itself to the window state/screen state.

that would seem to be a Mac OS issue. Perhaps

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7282309?start=30&tstart=0 for an earlier

version of OS 10 might help. If not, suggest you post in the Apple Mac forums

and ask about Bluetooth issues with a bluetooth keyboard. This would not be

specific to the Surface bluetooth keyboard AFAIK.
