Surface Pro 3 Type Cover driver issue

On my brand new Surface Pro3 I've experienced a weird thing. My Type Cover has already connected to my Pro3, and after standby mode the touchpad doesn't response. I need to re-attach it and after it everything works fine.

I've realized, that in the device manager driver isn't available. I hope simply a new driver or a firmware update gonna fix this.

Does anybody else has experienced something like this?

Thanks for your answers.

I've attached a picture too.

Hi NicHite,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community! We value the time you have taken to post and inform us about the issue you are experiencing. I’m sorry to hear your keyboard and USB are not working properly. I can certainly understand your concern, especially taking into consideration that this is a new device. I would like to help and do my best to guide you in the right direction!

First of all, please know I appreciate all the details and screenshots you have provided. It is always very useful in order to have a better understanding of the issue and provide more accurate troubleshooting.

The most basic but important step is to make sure you have all and latest Windows updates installed and that they were taken while to Type Cover was attached. Take into consideration there was an update released this past Tuesday 8/12/14.

Additionally, we suggest you try a two button restart:

  • Power off the Surface Pro
  • Hold Volume Up and the Power button for 10 seconds
  • Release buttons
  • Wait 5-10 seconds
  • Power on the Surface

When you **Refresh/Reset**your device, the drivers are usually uninstalled and reinstalled, nevertheless, we ask you to please do this manually as shown below:

  • From the Desktop, swipe from the right and select Settings.
  • Select Control Panel.
  • Select Device Manager.
  • Select Keyboards (in your case Other Devices)
  • Touch and hold over "Surface Type Cover Filter Device”.
  • Select Uninstall Driver Software (Please DO NOT check the box saying “Delete the driver software for this device”)
  • Follow instructions.
  • Restart your Surface.

If after the previous steps your Type Cover 3 still doesn't work properly, repeat the steps from 1-6 and click “Delete the driver software for this device”, then restart your Surface and allow Windows to reinstall the driver.

I’m also including the support article with more troubleshooting steps for your Cover and the detailed instructions on how to Refresh your device:

Before you begin

Regarding the USB, it definitely sounds like a hardware issue, and for this reason, we highly recommend you contact our Technical Support team by visiting our Surface Online Service Center here or our Contact us page here

We hope these steps prove useful! Keep us posted!

We are always here to help.

Best Wishes,

I went to device manager to see if the drivers are installed but i couldn't find the surface type cover drivers anywhere.  At first, I thought it's a defective type cover. but then I tried a friend's type cover and it didn't work on my unit either. Then I tried my type cover on my friend's surface and it instantly connected and worked.

Did you try the steps at

http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/hardware-and-drivers/troubleshoot-surface-keyboards

?

With the cover attached, go to

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38826 and download

SurfacePro3_ 150326.msi - run the MSI installer (and reboot when prompted).

Does this help? If not - Go to device manager and show hidden devices - do you

see any yellow bangs?

If these steps do not work, you would have to try a complete reset. And if a

reset didn't work, you WOULD need to exchange it (and you would have to find a

friend or family member in a supported country to do this for you or contact the

retailer where you purchased your device and see if they can assist in an

exchange).

Fellow SP3 type cover issue sufferers,

I found this to work after doing all the fixes here!

After 2 buttons hard shut down and waiting 10 seconds.

Then continue to push volume up and power button until it restarts; I had to do 2 times.

I also deleted the wacom device because that seemed to be the problem.

My SP3 cover was not recognized in the device manager under keyboard or any where else and after this it is now!

    Finally!
