Surface Laptop Studio will not charge occasionally / depletes battery at alarming rate.

Every once in awhile my Surface Laptop Studio will refuse to charge - or atleast it says it's charging but clearly isn't. The battery then depletes at a rate of almost 1% every minute until in shuts off at 0%. Then I have to repeatedly restart it, plug in charging cable, for almost an hour to get it to start charging again. This isn't a charger issue. This is possibly some odd software issue.

Why Microsoft wants be to make a post instead of talking to an employee is beyond me.

Thank you for your patience and feedback as we worked on this. A fix is now available through Windows Update. After installing the update, please restart (not Shutdown) your Surface Laptop Studio. For more information about updates for your Surface available through Windows Update see Download drivers and firmware for your Surface

For more details about Surface Laptop Update History, please see Surface Laptop Studio Update History.

If the issue continues to occur, here is a workaround that has helped others start charging again:

  1. Connect your Surface power supply and make sure the power connector light is on.
  2. Save all your work and shutdown your Surface.
  3. Once shutdown, press and hold down the power button, you will see the Windows logo screen flash and then turn off, continue to hold down the power button (about 20 seconds) until you see the Windows logo screen flash again and then release the power button.

No one is patient anymore, and no one cares anymore because Microsoft treats its customers as a necessary evil and not only can't solve problems for over a year but pretends that there is no problem, does not offer anything for the problems caused, sends used laptops with the same issue, ignores customers and generally doesn't care.

So please tell me why we should care about Microsoft.

It's starting to be that much for me, so crazy!!

Here's a suggestion to anyone thinking about buying Microsoft again, and what I would do in the future (though I don't think I'll be buying Microsoft again after this sh*tshow 🤣)

Anyway BUY IT FROM COSTCO. Because Costco will let you return it with no questions asked, whereas MS only gives you 30 days. And then they will deal with Microsoft instead of us wasting our time.

Thank you for posting your inquiry here in Microsoft Community, KevinSurface.

I understand that having a device with a longer battery life is very important specially for daily use. I appreciate the effort in performing the troubleshooting methods.

    What percentage on the battery does it stopped charging? Please perform the methods below;

    • Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check Windows Update.
    • Run the System File Checker.
    • Refresh the battery driver. Go to device manager > expand battery driver > right-click and choose uninstall > restart the device.
    • Install the drivers package manually.
    • Check the specific OS build of your Windows SettingsSystemAbout.
    • Download the driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Laptop Studio and click download on the next page.
    • Please choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.
    • After the download, runand installthe .msi then Restart the Surface Device
    • Turn off battery limit mode. Go to settings > system > Recovery > Look for Advanced Startup, then choose Restart now > Troubleshoot > advanced option > UEFI firmware settings > Under Surface UEFI, go to Boot configuration > Look for Advanced option, turn off battery limit mode.

    - Check the Power modeslider. For best battery life, the slider should be set to **Balanced.**Go **** to settings > system > power & battery > under power mode, click the drop-down then choose Balanced.

    • Please disable the apps that starts automatically when the device is turned on. Task Manager > Startup

Let me know how this goes.
