Surface Laptop Studio will not charge occasionally / depletes battery at alarming rate.

Every once in awhile my Surface Laptop Studio will refuse to charge - or atleast it says it's charging but clearly isn't. The battery then depletes at a rate of almost 1% every minute until in shuts off at 0%. Then I have to repeatedly restart it, plug in charging cable, for almost an hour to get it to start charging again. This isn't a charger issue. This is possibly some odd software issue.

Why Microsoft wants be to make a post instead of talking to an employee is beyond me.

Thank you for your patience and feedback as we worked on this. A fix is now available through Windows Update. After installing the update, please restart (not Shutdown) your Surface Laptop Studio. If the issue continues to occur, here is a workaround that has helped others start charging again:

  1. Connect your Surface power supply and make sure the power connector light is on.
  2. Save all your work and shutdown your Surface.
  3. Once shutdown, press and hold down the power button, you will see the Windows logo screen flash and then turn off, continue to hold down the power button (about 20 seconds) until you see the Windows logo screen flash again and then release the power button.

    My experience has been exactly as Rood_284 describes;

    • Similar specs (i7, 512gb SSD, 32gb RAM, graphics card)
    • The issue happens approximately once per month
    • Driver reinstall does not work
    • Tried w/ two different official microsoft chargers; same results w/ each
    • Tried reorienting the connector w/ both; same results
    • Hard shutdown (10-second button press) does indeed resolve until it occurs again a few weeks later

    Microsoft, can we please get a response on this?

    The same issue is with me here. Been only 4 months since the date of purchase. Every once in a while this happens (past one month) and I have to uninstall the driver shut down the PC then plug the cable back, and wait for at least 10 mins to power it back On to assure the charging problem stops. For example, today I plugged the laptop when it was at 20% the same happened until it came to 0% when it was plugged in. Did the same process which took 30 mins of my time while I was editing in Lightroom. I am appalled that Microsoft hasn't found a solution to this problem. As a Microsoft fan and as a first-time Surface owner my heart aches to see my first premium (€2199) device (bought with my own freaking money for the first time) is a faulty knock-off kinda product. Can some lad come up with a solution, will ya?!!!!

    I think I have some progress with this issue.

    As I have already reported here, the laptop does not charge when it is plugged in using a standard charger. However, the battery icon indicates that it is plugged in and the light on the connector is on. Today, I noticed that the tray icon does not show that it is plugged in anymore but the light on the connecter is still on. That is progress! What is next? No light on the connector?

    I did try the battery driver re-install. This does not seem to help, at least, not any better than a hard reboot. Both seem to only catch the issue a bit earlier than discharging fully to 0%. Then, it is only a matter of time until this issue arises again.
