Battery drain issue

In the meantime,

Keep Battery Saver on

Keep screen brightness as low as you can

Go to Start button, type "Control Panel", open it go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options, then whichever (pref Battery Saver or Balanced) is selected, go to "Change plan settings" (on the right in blue) > Change advanced power settings" (one from the bottom in blue) > click the + by Processor power management then "On Battery", change to 95% (this basically stops it giving a turbo boost to the processor every time you ask it to do something. If you notice a slow down, change it to 99%

I am having the same issue. I got a surface pro 7 for university, I only use it to open power points and work on word, I used to get 4 hours maximum while on a lecture, my lectures run for 6 hours so I could never finish a lecture with the computer on, I had to leave, charge it up, and catch up after. I went to the shop I got the computer and got a replacement. I am having exactly the same problem now. 4H down the line and I am on 29% with 2 more hours to go. I really don't want to be a nuisance and having to go to the shop and once again raise a complaint about it, but I am getting no battery life out of this machine at all.

How long the SP7 battery lasts is a difficult question to answer because no one reports their settings in a detailed manner (level of screen brightness, power mode used, wifi on or off, bluetooth on or off, keyboard attached or not, dark mode on or off, number of background apps open or closed, type of software installed, etc.) or systematically outlines their usage. As an owner of a SP7 (i7, 16ram, 256ssd), 2020 SPX (SQ2, 16ram, 512ssd), and 2021 SG3 (Pentium Gold 6500Y, 8ram, 128ssd), I can tell you that the SP7's battery life does not compare to the latter two devices. I easily get 13-14 hours of continuous YouTube viewing (40% screen brightness, battery save and wifi on, Bluetooth off, no keyboard, all background apps closed, dark mode on) on my SPX and over 9 hours on my SG3. With my SP7, battery life has ranged from 5 to 8.5 hours and currently stands at 6.5 to 7 hours.

In trying to manage my SP7s battery life, the main problem appears to be Windows updates. Some updates have a very negative effect on battery life. Consequently, I am constantly installing and uninstalling updates to figure out which ones are impacting battery life. Sometimes uninstalling updates helps, sometimes it doesn't, and other times it makes things worse. I ended up purchasing Anker's PowerCore III Elite 25600 87W Portable Charger as a way of extending my SP7s battery life. The Anker portable charger confirmed that the SP7 is a battery hog. The SP7 drains the 25600 mAh battery in a little over 7 hours, whereas my SPX, SG2, and 2020 HP Spectre x360 laptop all take between 10-14 hours.

I just got a Surface Pro 7 and became a part of Surface community.

I have a quick question. How long does your Surface Pro 7 battery last?

I saw several posts and comments on the battery drain issue, but I'd like to know whether the battery problem is only to a specific model (i5 or i7), or just seen in some devices.

Because I feel my Surface Pro barely works for 4~5 hours (Wifi with google docs, or simple work, etc.) not up to 10.5 hours. On the ads, it clearly says 'All-day battery life' & up to 10.5 hours of typical device usage. I tried some recommendations from other posts, but so far no luck here. 

So, I'd like to know whether you have a similar problem or successfully managed the problem.

I have a Surface Pro 7 with i5 processor, and on full charge only get 4 - 5 hours with only moderate use till battery down to 15% charge, that is no video, nothing but checking email and chats

That only checks if all windows processes are running and none are corrupt. It will most probably say everything is okay. Meaning Microsoft is draining this device with its own drivers and OS. And not because of a virus or other software the customer has installed.
